OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

The Operator performs the routine daily tasks concerning the operation and maintenance of theWastewater Treatment Plant(s), Collection System, Pumping Stations, Compost Facility, and the PTF.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • When assigned, may supervise a small crew or other operators or employees.
  • Actively participates in performing functions such as screening, grit removal, filtration, sedimentation, disinfection, sludge processing, pumping, composting and PTF /wastewater collection
  • Performs custodial duties, mowing, snow removal, and general work on divisional grounds and buildings.
  • Operates divisional motor vehicle equipment and vacuum truck.
  • Collects samples of wastewater for analysis.
  • Performs required testing and form reporting.
  • Constantly monitors all equipment for proper function, repairs, and maintains accordingly.
  • Assists Chief Operator and Assistant Chief Operator in training of new employees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the operation of wastewater treatment plant(s).
  • Above average mechanical ability.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations, to take accurate readings and keep routine records for both the Wastewater Plant and Collection System.
  • Ability to act quickly and correctly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maps.
  • Ability to diagnose and follow through on need for repairs related to the Wastewater Collection System.
  • Ability to learn repeated tasks quickly, allowing them to be performed under little or no supervision.
  • Ability to learn and operate operational & maintenance of vacuum truck.

TOOLS/TECHNOLOGY:

  • Ability to operate gas detectors and safety equipment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain the wastewater camera.
  • Ability to operate SCADA.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

  • Withstand occasional unpleasant or undesirable working conditions.
  • Working overtime is required.
  • The employee is required to be on-call for, or work during hours outside the regular workday/week. The current on-call schedule is a 3-week rotation.
