Fedcap Behavior Technician in Springfield, Virginia

Position Summary

As Behavior Technician you will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by implementing behavior support plans, skill development programs, and communication strategies that promote positive behaviors, independence, and successful participation in work and community environments. You will be responsible for direct observation, data collection, implementation of behavioral interventions, and staff coaching to ensure consistency and quality across MVLE programs.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Support

  • Provide behavioral support, coaching, and supervision to 100% of individuals with disabilities on caseload within center-based and community settings.

  • Implement 100% of individualized behavior support and skill-building plans in coordination with the Program Manager, Compliance.

  • Train and support direct service staff in implementing behavior plans and using positive behavior support strategies (including MANDT techniques), with 90% staff trained exhibiting competency in behavior plan implantation.

  • Provide crisis intervention and immediate behavioral support as needed, with 100% compliance with crises intervention protocols and timely response to incidents.

  • Monitor progress toward individual goals and adjust support strategies as appropriate, 100% when needed.

Data Management & Documentation

  • Collect, summarize, and analyze behavioral data; ensure timely and accurate documentation in Medisked and other designated systems 100% of the time.

  • Maintain 100% of detailed case notes and reports reflecting observations, interventions, and outcomes.

  • Support development of data collection tools and forms to ensure alignment with individual service plans (ISPs) and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Participate in 100% of interdisciplinary team meetings, ISP reviews, and staff consultations.

  • Communicate regularly with Program Coordinators, DSPs, and families to ensure consistency in behavioral supports.

  • Assist in identifying environmental or systemic barriers that may impact behavioral progress and propose solutions.

Compliance & Quality

  • Maintain familiarity with DBHDS, DMAS, and CARF standards related to behavioral services and ensure 100% implementation aligns with those requirements.

  • Uphold MVLE policies, confidentiality, and person-centered practices.

  • Contribute to the organization’s culture of safety, respect, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred. High School diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities exhibiting challenging behaviors.

  • Experience implementing behavior plans and providing direct support in vocational, residential, or educational settings.

  • Familiarity with Medicaid, DBHDS, and CARF regulatory standards.

  • MANDT certification (or ability to obtain) required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Principles and methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and positive behavior support.

  • Crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies.

  • Documentation, data collection, and confidentiality standards.

  • Medicaid Waiver and DBHDS behavioral support regulations.

  • Person-centered planning and trauma-informed care principles.

  • Strong observation, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication (oral and written) across diverse teams and individuals.

  • Proficiency in data entry and electronic record systems (e.g., Medisked).

  • Ability to train and coach staff on behavior support implementation.

  • Skill in maintaining composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.

  • Build rapport and trust with individuals served, families, and team members.

  • Adapt interventions and teaching strategies to meet individual needs.

  • Work independently while contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of service delivery.
