Aerotek Field Service Technician in Springfield, Oregon
Job Title: Field Service Technician
Job Description
The Field Service Technician installs and services CO2 monitoring equipment at existing customer sites in commercial environments such as restaurants, gas stations, apartment buildings, and other facilities. The role focuses on light low-voltage work similar to fire alarm installations, using CAT5 cabling and basic hand tools to mount and connect small electronic monitoring devices to CO2 systems. The technician travels between sites using their own vehicle, works independently after training, and interacts directly with customers to explain the work being performed and answer basic questions about the systems.
Responsibilities
Travel to existing customer locations using your own reliable vehicle to install CO2 monitoring equipment in commercial settings.
Install small electronic monitoring boxes near CO2 tanks and connect them using CAT5 cabling and other low-voltage wiring methods.
Use basic hand and power tools, including drills, wire snips, pliers, and crimping tools, to complete clean and secure installations.
Read and follow basic wiring diagrams or blueprints to ensure accurate placement and connection of monitoring devices.
Pick up required materials, equipment, and supplies from the designated shop or depot, typically once or twice per week, and maintain organized inventory in your vehicle.
Perform light troubleshooting on monitoring systems and wiring when issues arise, identifying and resolving problems independently on site.
Document all work performed by taking clear photos of installations and locations using a smartphone and uploading them as required.
Accurately record mileage and expenses using the company’s expense system to ensure proper reimbursement.
Communicate professionally with customers on site, explaining the purpose of your visit, the work being completed, and addressing basic questions about the system.
Respond to calls, emails, and questions related to scheduled work and system issues while on the road and on site.
Work independently on job sites after completing an initial training period, making sound decisions and thinking through installation or troubleshooting challenges without direct supervision.
Follow safety guidelines and best practices when working around CO2 tanks and in various commercial environments.
Manage your daily schedule within the provided shift window, coordinating site visits efficiently while meeting quality and documentation standards.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years of experience in light construction, mechanical work, or an electrical background.
Hands-on experience with low-voltage or light electrical work, such as installing or servicing devices in commercial settings.
Ability to use basic hand and power tools including drills, wire snips, pliers, and crimping tools safely and effectively.
Experience reading and following basic wiring diagrams, blueprints, or similar technical documentation.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently on job sites.
Reliable transportation capable of supporting approximately 400 miles of driving per week.
Ownership of required tools and a ladder suitable for installation work in commercial environments.
Ability to document work using a smartphone, including taking clear photos and entering basic information.
Comfort using a smartphone for GPS navigation and for capturing and submitting job-related documentation.
Ability to interact professionally with customers, clearly explain the purpose of the visit, and communicate about the work being performed.
Comfort working alone on job sites after training, making decisions and solving problems independently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
No formal certifications are required for this role.
Any prior low-voltage or light electrical installation experience is a strong plus.
Experience with fire alarm or similar low-voltage systems in commercial environments is beneficial.
General handyman or DIY experience that demonstrates comfort with tools and simple installations is helpful.
Previous experience driving for work or in a field-based role is advantageous due to the amount of time spent on the road.
Familiarity with using expense reporting applications or systems to document mileage and job-related costs is preferred.
Strong attention to detail when running and securing wires to maintain a neat and professional installation.
Ability to think critically and troubleshoot issues on site without direct supervision.
Comfort responding to calls and emails related to work while in the field.
Why Work Here?
You join a team that values an easy-going, supportive work culture and trusts technicians to manage their schedules within a flexible framework. The role offers significant independence once training is complete, allowing you to work on your own in the field while still having clear processes and support. You benefit from a predictable daytime shift structure, mileage reimbursement for your travel, and the opportunity to build practical technical skills in a growing area driven by new safety regulations. The environment encourages problem-solving, self-direction, and professional interaction with customers, giving you a mix of hands-on technical work and customer-facing experience.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role with most of the work performed at customer sites such as restaurants, gas stations, apartment buildings, and other commercial facilities. You will travel frequently using your own vehicle, typically covering up to approximately 400 miles per week, and you will visit a central shop or depot in Springfield about once or twice per week to pick up materials. The work involves light low-voltage installation and troubleshooting using tools such as drills, wire snips, pliers, crimpers, and ladders, as well as working around CO2 tanks and related equipment. After an initial training period that may last up to a few weeks, you will work alone on job sites, often without other technicians present, and will need to think through installation and troubleshooting tasks independently. You will use a smartphone for GPS navigation, taking photos of completed work, and documenting mileage and expenses in the company’s systems. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the expectation that you can work additional hours during the week if needed, though there is no on-call requirement. The role requires a neat, practical appearance appropriate for commercial customer environments and safe use of tools and equipment in a variety of indoor and semi-industrial settings.
