Amazon Sr Ops Eng – Standards & Policy, One MHS in Springdale, Ohio
Description
The One MHS (OMHS) Integration & Deployment organization is seeking a Senior Operations Engineer – Standards & Policy to own the definition, governance, and continuous improvement of standard work across large-scale material handling system integration and deployment.
This role is the single-threaded owner for how work is done. You will translate engineering intent, safety requirements, and operational lessons learned into clear, enforceable standards that enable field teams to execute safely, consistently, and at scale. Success is measured by reduced variability, fewer defects, faster onboarding, and predictable execution across hundreds of installations.
This role requires a leader with a strong process and systems background who understands how to design standards that work in real operational environments—not just on paper. Experience in highly regulated, safety-critical industries (e.g., aviation, airlines, nuclear, rail) is highly relevant.
Key job responsibilities
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of OMHS Integration & Deployment standards, policies, and standard work instructions.
Serve as the final authority for how installation, commissioning, quality, and handoff work is executed.
Translate engineering designs, safety requirements, and operational constraints into executable standard work.
Establish a scalable governance model for standard creation, review, approval, version control, and deprecation.
Ensure standards are clear, usable, and field-ready—validated through direct engagement with execution teams.
Partner with field and other stakeholders to ensure standards are embedded into training, tools, and workflows.
Own deviation, waiver, and exception processes with clear risk assessment and decision criteria.
Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned, defect data, and post-mortem insights into updated standards.
Ensure field teams have the tools, documentation, and clarity needed to execute without ambiguity.
Identify gaps, conflicts, or failure modes in existing standards and drive resolution before they scale.
Influence senior leaders through data-backed recommendations on where standardization materially improves safety, quality, speed, or cost.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience
5+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience
5+ years of maintenance or engineering experience
Bachelor's degree
Experience and strong technical background in relevant fields of automated or non-automated material handling equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field
Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools
