HP Inc. Customs Specialist in Spring, Texas

Description -

This role will be responsible for managing import and export Operations in North America with primary focus in the U.S. and Canada.  The role requires a solid understanding and application of import regulations (US import regulations are a must). Activities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Reviewing and identifying Customs compliance issues

  • Operational escalations

  • Managing customs brokers, including QBRs and SOPs

  • Maintaining/publishing trade-related metrics

  • Establishing and leading relationships with cross-functional partners to embed operational trade compliance concepts and requirements

  • Proactively identifying value-add opportunities to improve cross-border operational efficiencies, minimize compliance risks, and reduce costs

  • Serve as trade compliance subject matter expert, including monitoring and communicating pertinent trade-related regulatory changes and, when necessary, ensuring that process updates are made, communicated, and implemented

  • Providing advice and guidance concerning trade matters to global stakeholders

  • Coordinating and communicating country and business-specific cross border requirements

  • Leading and/or representing the team in projects to support trade-related process/practice enhancements

  • Establishing and deploying best practices and facilitating internal and external training to teams/vendors that directly or indirectly manage activities that impact export and import compliance

  • Developing, documenting, maintaining, and driving enforcement of policies and procedures regarding trade (including Classification, Country of Origin, Valuation and Recordkeeping)

  • Performing compliance performance and risk assessments of HP vendors and driving implementation of corrective actions

  • Establishing vendor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Balance Score Cards (BSCs) relative to trade compliance and import/export performance

  • Serving as primary point of contact for brokers and forwarders

  • Mining and analyzing data to enable trade compliance management, including quantification of commercial risk, and other metrics

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in Customs regulations, clearance, and brokerage preferably in technology environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of Tariff Classifications and Country of Origin

  • Strong project management and prioritization skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills

  • BA/BS in international business or related fields /MS or MBA preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of import and export operations compliance in the US, including use of special programs, country of origin, HTS, ECCN, customs valuation

  • Experience in developing and deploying process improvements and best practices across organizational functions with a strong focus on results

  • Strong presentation, communication, and teamwork skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with and managing multiple vendors and fundamental understanding of supply chain/logistics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP a plus

  • Experience with supply chain security programs such as the CTPAT, OEA, etc.

  • Experience with Duty Drawback

  • Self-starter, ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Structured problem solving - ability to take a large, complex problem and break it down into components

  • Facilitation - ability to work with several organizations with differing needs and develop an agreed upon solution to meeting the requirements

  • Partnership/teamwork - ability to work well with a variety of people and be flexible to take on different roles/responsibilities as projects change

  • Supervisory skills, including delegation, training, and evaluating performance a plus

Pay & Benefits

The pay range for this role is $65,600 to $101,000 USD annually with additional

opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United

States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related

knowledge, skills, and experience.
