Job Purpose:Determines the history, customs, and living habits of earlier civilizations by locating, collecting, identifying, examining, and interpreting physical evidence; preparing technical reports.Duties: * Plans investigations by examining historical records and documents; researching actual and potential sites. * Conducts field research by locating, laying-out, and mapping sites; establishing schedules; recovering and preserving evidence, such as, ruins, tools, pottery, art; supervising support staff; packing and shipping items. * Interprets discoveries by analyzing and interpreting evidence involving history, customs, and living habits; completing laboratory analyses; collaborating with colleagues. * Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; writing descriptions and interpretations. * Disseminates historical information by designing, preparing, and implementing exhibits; giving lectures and seminars. * Ensures operation of tools and equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. * Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. * Meets budget requirements by monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; containing costs. * Updates job knowledge by participating in professional conferences and organizations; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks. * Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.Skills/Qualifications:Scientific Curiosity, Written Communication, Reporting Skills, Statistical Analysis, Technical Documentation, Research Skills, Reporting Research Results, Analyzing Information , Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Quality Focus
