Job Title:CNC and Laser Cutting Machine Operator

Position Summary:
The CNC and Laser Cutting Machine Operator / Setup Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and programming of CNC and laser cutting machines. This role includes the design and fabrication of custom holding tools and fixtures to support production efficiency and precision. Experience with robotic programming and integration is considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation and Setup
- Set up and operate CNC and laser cutting machines (fiber and/or CO2) to produce high-precision components.
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
- Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently.
Programming
- Develop and optimize CNC and laser cutting manual programs using G codes and/or CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
- Adjust cutting parameters based on material type and thickness to ensure quality and minimize waste.
Tooling and Fixture Design
- Design and manage fabrication custom holding tools, jigs, and fixtures to support production and reduce setup time.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure that tooling meets safety and performance standards.
Robotic Programming and Integration (Asset)
- Assist in the programming and integration of robotic systems for automation of material handling or secondary operations.
- Support automation initiatives to improve workflow and reduce manual labor.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Ensure all components meet dimensional and surface finish specifications.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of machine settings, programs, and maintenance activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on process enhancements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or mechatronics preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating and programming CNC and laser cutting machines.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and G-code programming.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and materials.
- Experience in designing and fabricating custom tooling and fixtures.
- Familiarity with robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking processes.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
