Actalent Engineering Test Technician in South San Francisco, California

Engineering Test Technician Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Test Technician to support the design, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical test fixtures and subsystems. This role blends hands-on engineering work with analytical problem‑solving, CAD design, and automated test execution using Python. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, comfortable in a fast‑paced engineering environment, and adept at diagnosing complex technical issues using both hardware tools and data‑driven insights.

Key ResponsibilitiesFixture & Jig Design

  • Use CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar) to design, modify, and maintain test fixtures and jigs.

  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure designs meet testing requirements.

  • Prepare engineering drawings and documentation for fabrication and assembly.

Electrical & System Testing

  • Use electrical testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators) to test and troubleshoot electrical circuits, fixture wiring, and subsystem components.

  • Diagnose failures in fixtures, PCBs, wiring harnesses, and system-level assemblies.

  • Support test setup, calibration, execution, and verification activities.

Automated Test Execution

  • Execute and modify automated test scripts written in Python.

  • Assist engineers in developing automated sequences for validating components and assemblies.

  • Ensure test environments are stable, repeatable, and properly documented.

Data Analysis & Troubleshooting

  • Analyze test data using tools such as Python, Excel, or internal dashboards to identify trends and failure modes.

  • Provide clear documentation of findings and assist in root‑cause analysis.

  • Recommend design changes or process improvements based on test insights.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate test records, procedures, and configuration documents.

  • Communicate issues clearly to engineering teams and help drive corrective actions.

  • Support continuous improvement of test processes and fixture reliability.

QualificationsRequired

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electronics, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Hands-on experience with CAD software for creating or modifying mechanical designs.

  • Strong competency with electrical measurement tools and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

  • Experience running or editing Python-based test scripts.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and act on test data.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
