The Opportunity
In US Medical, we focus on identifying medical care gaps, answering novel, important scientific questions, and educating providers and payers. As a key pillar in the broader Genentech organization, Medical has a pivotal role in bridging internal partner functions (including Research, Product Development, Commercial, and Government Affairs) and collaborating across the dynamic health ecosystem to ultimately identify and close care gaps and deliver better patient outcomes, while making care more accessible and equitable for all.
The Business Strategy & Operations Manager (BSOM), Scientific Collaborations, will lead the planning, management, and execution of Oncology Hematology scientific congresses in partnership with the Senior Medical Science Director, Congress Engagement & Content strategy, to drive impactful customer engagement. This role requires strong project management and operational capabilities as well as close collaboration with cross-functional teams (including Medical, Commercial, Research & Early Development, Product Development, and external partners) to develop, implement, and optimize scientific content and customer engagement strategies for Roche/Genentech pipeline products and clinical trials. The individual will ensure adherence to compliance, legal, and regulatory standards throughout all stages of congress planning and execution. Key responsibilities include managing Genentech’s medical congress presence, scientific content development, customer engagement and logistics coordination, event planning, and overseeing end-to-end congress-related activities for the US Medical Oncology Hematology team. The BSOM will also support budget management and agency performance tracking, striving to improve processes and streamline activities.
Key Responsibilities
Major areas of responsibility for the BSOM will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support the Senior Medical Science Director in the development and execution of the annual strategy and tactics for assigned scientific congresses, ensuring alignment with business objectives
Lead the development and approval process for scientific content, including materials for medical booths, presentations, and meetings, in partnership with the Senior Medical Science Director and scientific content agency
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to provide operational support and execute on all aspects of medical congress presence, including logistics, project management, content development, social media, medical booth set up, customer meetings, and medical events/receptions, etc
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, reporting, and other legal requirements
Track performance metrics, providing regular updates and insights to key stakeholders
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine congress strategies, identify process improvements, and ensure successful outcomes
Who you are
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or related field
2 or more years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least two years focused on medical congresses.
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines. Ability to influence without authority.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a highly matrixed organization and with external partners.
Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills with knowledge of the drug development process, pipeline products strategy, key internal and external stakeholders, relevant business processes, and applicable technologies.
Demonstrates strong strategic agility and has the ability to identify new opportunities to innovate and streamline business processes for high impact.
Preferred Experience:
Advanced degree such as PharmD, PhD, MBA degree
1 or more years of US Medical Affairs experience
2 or more years of experience with large oncology or hematology congresses (e.g., ASCO, AACR, ASH)
2 or more years of experience working with medical content creation agencies and using Veeva Vault system to review and approve medical content
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
Location / Travel Requirements
This position is based in South San Francisco
Ability to travel (up to 10% depending on business needs).
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $111,800 - 207,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
