Commander, Navy Installations FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in Souda Bay, Greece
Summary You will serve as a Firefighter (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the Fire and Emergency Services department of NAVSUPPACT SOUDA BAY. Responsibilities You will be assigned to a crew engaged in the full range of firefighting or rescue operations, basic emergency medical care, and emergency medical transport. You will assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards to protect persons, property, or the environment. You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles. You will assist in training other firefighters on driving vehicles and operating equipment. You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director. You will provide tactical or strategic level guidance for response personnel at hazardous materials incidents in confinement, control, and containment of various classes of hazardous materials. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade; performing rescue operations; and detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards and; 2) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures and; 3) Performing work at airfields handling aircraft carrying large volumes of fuel, sometimes nuclear weapons or highly flammable or explosive cargo. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems. The employee must wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. Firefighters must be physically fit at all times in order to perform the duties of their position to the best of their abilities. As such, all operationally based 0081 series employees shall participate in a Wellness and Fitness Program established by their Fire Department, in order to maintain a level of health and fitness necessary for performing their job functions. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Souda Bay is a location that is a without the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) support normally associated with an overseas assignment.
