Microbiologist – Environmental Monitoring & Microbial Testing
Position Summary
The Microbiology Department is responsible for performing microbial testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished oral solid dosage products (clinical, commercial, and customer products) in accordance with current compendial methodologies. The department also oversees Environmental Monitoring (EM) of the facility and utilities.
The Microbiologist plays a key role in supporting timely GMP testing and release of raw materials and finished products. This position supports non-sterile manufacturing operations
Required Experience & Qualifications
BS or MS in Microbiology or related scientific discipline
3–5 years of pharmaceutical microbiology experience
Hands-on experience with:
Environmental Monitoring (EM)
USP <61> Microbial Enumeration Tests
USP <62> Tests for Specified Microorganisms
Microbial limit testing
Experience working in a GMP environment
Strong documentation practices and data integrity awareness
Primary Responsibilities
Perform microbial testing of: Raw materials, In-process samples and Finished oral solid dosage products
Execute USP <61> and <62> microbial limit testing
Perform Environmental Monitoring (air, surface, personnel, and utilities sampling)
Conduct water sampling and testing
Maintain accurate, GMP-compliant documentation and laboratory notebooks
Review microbiological data for accuracy and completeness
Support investigations, deviations, and OOS/OOT events
Assist in writing protocols, reports, and test methods
Support ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies
Ensure testing is completed within established timelines
Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements
Work Environment
Non-sterile manufacturing environment
Oral solid dosage products
Standard laboratory PPE required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in:
SOP writing and revisions
Method development and/or method validation
Laboratory investigations and root cause analysis
