North Shore Farm, LLC H2A - Farm/Irrigation/Livestock Worker in SOMERS, Montana

Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of diverse vegetables, chickens, and strawberries. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. Duties related to general farm work may include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors /equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; drive/load/unload farm trucks on, or between, farm worksites; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; prepare fields, seed beds, containers, plastic growing beds, etc.; hand plant trees, vines, and/or plants in fields, orchards, and/or containers; sow seed and plant cuttings; graft scions to stock; mix planting soil; propagate plants; walk behind equipment to ensure plant placement (unclog planter if necessary); plant transplants with machine or by hand; observe general condition and inspect crops/plants/trees for nutrient/moisture requirements and/or signs of disease/insect manifestations/worms/rot and apply appropriate care; remove dead plants and replace with seeds or live plants; use mechanized or hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning tools, shears, knives, saws, ladders, etc.; mix/spray/apply chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, and other plant related treatments (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable) by hand or machine; haul/spread soil, composted material, or products to condition land; fill growing tanks with water; dig/rake and screen soil and fill cold frames/hot beds; lift items such as rolls of plastic, bundles of wire, and rolls of drip tape overhead; read/interpret meters used to regulate/control environmental conditions; maintain/repair hydroponic/environmental control systems;

build/install/maintain trellises; remove strings/wire from trellises or other structures; clear property, cut down trees, clear and burn roots and brush; identify, trap, poison pests; start fans that circulate air or light smudge pots or torches to prevent frost damage; identify and remove product that is misshapen, damaged, or inferior; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants/vines/trees and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; prune/thin from ground, ladder, or motorized platform using a variety of hand and/or mechanized pruning equipment; identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rub against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots/suckers; remove bud and/or identifiable fruit from within a cluster of other fruits; train trees/vines to trellis, including clipping and tying limbs and shoots to wire; stake and tie plants/trees; train, position, prop, and tie tree limbs; mow/tend farm areas; maintain/repair fencing;

paint/repair/maintain farm structures/grounds; perform general cleanup of farm areas, worksites, fields, etc.; collect fallen debris/product into piles using rake; remove ladders, debris, boxes, and discarded product from fields and orchards; dig with a shovel or machine; lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies; load/unload trucks and product from conveyor belt; attach hangers to baskets and hang throughout holding houses; install/remove plastic coverings; count, inventory, and grade trees; drag cut trees from cutting area; pack, label, tag, pull, sort, and store plants by variety. Duties related to Irrigation may include the following: Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified inter als; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis. Drip Irrigation: move and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields; maintain and repair drip irrigation; flush drip irrigation lines; remove drip irrigation and lay flat from fields prior to harvest; walk behind tractor to ensure lay flat spools correctly when removing from field. Other Irrigation Duties: transport, set up, maintain, and inspect water reels; remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as

sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water; disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season. Duties related to harvesting, packing, or storing crops may include the following: prepare plants/vines/trees to fill orders; fill and label trays and move product to/from greenhouses and loading/unloading areas; spread liners in bins and roll bins into blocks by hand; even out rows for harvest; carry and position work aids such as ladders, canvas drop-cloths, buckets, harnesses, and bags; stand on the ground, ladders, or elevated platforms, stoop over plants, or crawl along rows to reach product when harvesting; pick crop from tree/vine/plant according to grade, color and size by grasping product with hands and removing from plant/soil/stem/root in a motion so as not to harm adjacent branches /vines/plants/product; snip stems; remove dirt from product; measure product using gages; use small knives or tools to cut crops from trees/plants/vines; pull crop from the ground; cut tops off with scissors; clip ends off crop and toss the tops back into the field; repeatedly catch and throw

crops weighing up to 30 pounds; hand crop off to, or receive from, another worker for placement into containers or onto trailers/wagons/trucks/conveyors; lay harvested crop on trays in sun to dry;

discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; place harvested product into containers such as bags, buckets, trays, crates, plastic lugs, wooden bins, clamshells, or packaging; transfer full

buckets into burlap sacks; place in bags and lay in field to mature; dump filled product from smaller containers such as buckets/bags into larger containers; place product on designated conveyors; guide

harvester discharge spout over bins to load product on trailer; prepare crops for shipment; sort product according to grade, color and size in the field, storage facility, or cold storage location;

prepare/assemble boxes/bins/containers/clamshells for packing products; weigh product; wash product; apply stickers to product; label/sort clamshells; place clamshells into cardboard boxes; hand

stack boxes/containers onto pallets; load/unload product/containers/pallets onto or off of trucks/wagons/trailers/field conveyors by hand or forklift; pickup and move bins/pallets with forklift; transport crops to market and/or storage facilities; remove rocks from rows in front of harvesting equipment; alert equipment operator of equipment clogging/malfunctions; aid operator in correct machine performance; label and organize bins; gather crop by hand or machine.

Duties related to the Production of Poultry may include: assist in well-being/health of livestock and ensure basic needs are met; check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and

apply the appropriate care; observe animals to detect illness/injury/disease/rate of weight gain; remove weak, ill, and dead poultry from flock; remove chicks from shipping cartons and place them in

brooder houses; catch and handle chickens using appropriate protective equipment; weigh/count animals; inspect, maintain, and repair pens, yards, and fences; move equipment
