Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician ensures that all production machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role focuses on both mechanical and electrical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and 480V equipment, while performing troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging machinery in a regulated food production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production machinery, including conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues involving hydraulics, pneumatics, three-phase motors, and other mechanical components.

  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs on systems operating at 480V, following all safety standards and procedures.

  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on all assigned equipment, documenting work performed and parts used.

  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential problems and take corrective action before failures occur.

  • Support packaging machinery maintenance to ensure reliable operation and adherence to production schedules.

  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines in all maintenance activities to support product quality and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to prioritize maintenance tasks and coordinate equipment downtime.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, PM checklists, and equipment history.

  • Assist with equipment installations, adjustments, and improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.

  • Follow all facility safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and cleanliness standards while working in a cold, food-processing environment.

  • Respond to maintenance calls during scheduled shifts and weekends as needed to support continuous operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in maintenance within an industrial, manufacturing, or similar environment.

  • Hands-on experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics on mechanical systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems and perform conveyor maintenance.

  • Experience working with three-phase motors and related mechanical and electrical components.

  • Electrical troubleshooting experience with equipment operating at 480V.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately.

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on production or packaging equipment.

  • Familiarity with packaging machines and packaging maintenance processes.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a cold environment around 36 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • PLC experience or exposure to programmable logic controllers is a plus but not required.

  • Experience working in FDA-regulated or food-processing environments is highly beneficial.

  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and technical documentation.

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with production, quality, and other maintenance team members.

  • Dependable work ethic with flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, cleanliness, and compliance with facility procedures.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite role with two openings on the day shift. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation of working most Saturdays and every other weekend, resulting in a typical six-day workweek. The facility cuts, cleans, and packages produce, and the production environment is maintained at approximately 36 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, so comfort working in a cold setting is essential. The operation is FDA-regulated and follows strict GMP and cleanliness standards, requiring consistent adherence to hygiene and safety procedures. Uniforms are provided after 90 days, and employees work around industrial machinery such as conveyors, cutting equipment, pumps, and packaging lines while following all safety and lockout/tagout protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
