Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of industrial production and packaging equipment to keep manufacturing lines running reliably and efficiently. This role performs preventive and predictive maintenance, implements technical solutions to recurring issues, and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all industrial equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production and packaging equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
Maintain and repair equipment such as conveyors, photo eye sensors, packaging machinery, labelers, cappers, fillers, pumps, and valves.
Ensure converting equipment and production lines run consistently and efficiently, responding quickly to breakdowns and performance issues.
Perform changeovers and equipment setups to support different products and packaging formats.
Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters, to diagnose problems and verify repairs.
Implement technical solutions and improvements to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and safety.
Participate in manufacturing process improvement initiatives and contribute maintenance expertise to cross-functional teams.
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and applicable regulatory requirements in all maintenance activities.
Document maintenance work, repairs, and inspections accurately and use computer systems, including MS Office, to track maintenance activities.
Collaborate with production and other departments to schedule maintenance, minimize disruption, and support production goals.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area and adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines.
Essential Skills
Minimum 1 year of industrial maintenance experience working on hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and 3-phase motors.
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment.
Ability to perform conveyor maintenance and work with motors, pumps, valves, fillers, and packaging machinery.
Comfortable performing changeovers and setups on production and packaging lines.
Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters.
Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Basic electrical troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment.
High school diploma or GED.
Computer proficiency in MS Office applications.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and respond quickly to equipment issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prefer 3+ years of experience working in a GMP environment.
Best-fit candidates have a minimum of 5 years of related manufacturing experience in an FDA-regulated facility.
Candidates with approximately 3 years of experience in a non-FDA manufacturing facility are also suitable.
Previous experience in GMP or food manufacturing is a plus.
Experience in an FDA-regulated facility, such as food and beverage or health and beauty care manufacturing, is highly desirable.
Experience in liquid filling or packaging operations is preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement technical solutions to recurring equipment issues.
Ability to work collaboratively with production, quality, and other support teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Work Environment
The facility operates extensive production and distribution centers totaling nearly one million square feet and runs around the clock, five days a week, with products distributed nationwide seven days a week. It is a liquid filling and packaging environment, often associated with health and beauty care products, and operates under FDA and GMP standards. Candidates with liquid filling, packaging, or food and beverage manufacturing backgrounds typically adapt well to this setting. The environment includes strong and distinct odors depending on the department, such as mouthwash, lotion, or alcohol, and team members should be comfortable working around these scents. Work is performed on and around high-speed production and packaging equipment in an industrial plant setting, requiring adherence to safety procedures and appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
