Utilities Project Engineer

Manufacturing | On-site (Smithfield, NC)

Salary: $89,500 DOE

Position Summary

The Utilities Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, optimization, and reliability of critical utility systems including industrial refrigeration, boilers, and compressed air. This role partners with facility teams to improve system performance, support capital projects, and ensure safe, compliant operations across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Support facility operations by collaborating with site teams and engineering groups

• Assist in the development of capital infrastructure plans and utility system improvements

• Contribute to the design, selection, and implementation of utility system equipment

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to refrigeration and other utility systems

• Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency

• Perform calculations related to system loads, capacities, and performance requirements

• Support budgeting, planning, and execution of utility-related projects

• Assist with compliance and process safety initiatives

• Research and evaluate new technologies to support continuous improvement

• Provide technical guidance to plant teams as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

• 2+ years of relevant engineering experience

• Foundational knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems

• Industrial refrigeration certification (e.g., CIRO or equivalent program)

• Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Willingness to travel up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electrical systems, motors, and controls

• Exposure to wastewater systems or industrial utilities

• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams

Pay Details: $85,000.00 to $89,500.00 per year
