Job Title: Shipping Assistant Job Description

As a Shipping Assistant, you will be responsible for resolving various shipping issues, such as mis-shipments, shortages, damages, deliveries, and freight charges. You will handle incoming and outgoing calls related to product shipments, including communication with carriers, customer service, sales, and operations teams. Your role will involve evaluating and resolving aging orders, accurately generating shipping documents, freight terms, and commercial invoices, generating pick tickets, assigning carriers to minimize costs, investigating freight claims, and overseeing timely completion of customer-specific freight shipments and international orders. You will also schedule carrier pickups and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve shipping issues such as mis-shipments, shortages, damage, deliveries, and freight charges.

  • Handle incoming/outgoing calls regarding shipment of product including carriers, customer service, sales, and operations.

  • Evaluate and resolve aging orders that have not shipped.

  • Accurately generate shipping documents, freight terms, and commercial invoices.

  • Generate pick tickets and assign carriers as required to minimize cost.

  • Investigate freight claims and provide disposition.

  • Oversee the prompt completion of all customer-specific freight shipments and international orders.

  • Schedule carrier pick-ups.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Experience with shipping, warehouse inventory, cycle counts, and international orders.

  • Ability to use computers effectively.

  • Detail-oriented and capable of working independently as well as in a team.

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with freight shipments and international orders is a plus.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically.

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods, stand and walk intermittently throughout the day, and engage in shipping activities on the warehouse floor.

  • Capability to bend, push, pull, and kneel.

  • Willingness to work beyond scheduled shifts, including weekends.

  • Ability to work in weather extremes and wear all required PPE.

  • Commitment to complying with all plant safety policies.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SMITHFIELD, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.
