Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The Lab Coordinator manages the daily operations of a laboratory, which includes maintaining equipment, managing inventory and supplies, and ensuring safety and compliance. They will provide technical support and training to researchers and students, and may also be responsible for administrative tasks like scheduling, budgeting, and assisting with research.
operations and maintenance:
Ensure the laboratory is clean, organized, and in good working order.
Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration on lab equipment.
Coordinate major equipment repairs with external vendors.
Inventory and supply management:
Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment.
Disburse supplies and chemicals as needed.
Assist with purchasing and monitor budgets for supplies and equipment.
Safety and compliance:
Implement and enforce safety rules and regulations, such as those from OSHA .
Ensure all personnel have completed necessary safety training.
Conduct safety inspections and manage chemical disposal.
Technical and administrative support:
Provide technical assistance and training to researchers, faculty, and students.
Assist with preparing lab setups for experiments and classes.
May be responsible for scheduling, managing lab access, and handling paperwork.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field.
demonstrated hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and safety procedures;
working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil, electrical, petroleum);
strong organizational and troubleshooting skills;
ability to support laboratory instruction;
familiarity with accreditation requirements (e.g., ABET ) and documentation;
excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the following areas preferred: Microsoft Office and database management; web maintenance; budget maintenance and use of SAP program; experience with SourcePoint; developing and maintaining a filing system; ordering and maintaining office supplies; and working with diverse populations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task are also preferred.
