Position Summary
Teal Drones, a Red Cat Holdings company, is seeking a Vice President of Training, Quality & Customer Enablement to lead the development and execution of enterprise training systems, instructional design, product quality, and customer operational readiness across military, government, commercial, and internal operational environments.
This executive role is responsible for building a scalable training and enablement organization that ensures operators, maintainers, internal technical staff, and engineers achieve mission and production readiness quickly and safely while maintaining high standards of product quality and operational performance.
The VP will establish training curriculum, certification programs, instructor frameworks, and internal workforce training systems that support:
Direct customer training
Institutional training environments
Partner training schools
Internal operator certification
Technical onboarding for engineers and manufacturing teams
This role is full-time onsite in Salt Lake City and requires daily collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, product, and program teams to ensure alignment between system capabilities, workforce readiness, training outcomes, and customer success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Enterprise Training Strategy & Instructional Design Leadership
Establish and lead Teal’s enterprise training strategy across defense, public safety, commercial, and internal operational segments.
Build and lead an instructional design function responsible for developing scalable, repeatable training programs aligned with adult learning principles and operational training standards.
Oversee development of:
Operator training curriculum
Maintainer and technician certification programs
Instructor qualification programs
Mission and scenario-based training modules
Evaluation standards and proficiency benchmarks
Ensure training curriculum remains synchronized with hardware revisions, software updates, configuration changes, and operational lessons learned.
Define measurable training effectiveness metrics including proficiency attainment, safety outcomes, and operational readiness.
Operator & Maintainer Curriculum Development (External Customers)
Design structured learning pathways from initial qualification through advanced operational proficiency.
Develop training progression models including:
Initial Qualification Training (IQT)
Mission Qualification Training (MQT)
Sustainment and recurrent training
Translate system capabilities, operational constraints, and failure modes into actionable training outcomes.
Develop standardized courseware including:
Lesson plans
Instructor guides
Hands-on exercises
Simulation-based training
Digital training modules
Ensure curriculum supports classroom, lab, and field-based instruction.
Align training programs with operational deployment realities and mission use cases.
Commercial Customer Training & Institutional Training Programs
Develop and maintain training curriculum tailored for commercial operators, public safety agencies, and enterprise customers.
Establish training programs appropriate for:
Commercial drone operators
Industrial inspection customers
Energy, infrastructure, and utilities sectors
Public safety and emergency response customers
Build scalable training delivery models including:
Direct Teal-led training
Partner-delivered training
Certified training provider programs
Establish requirements and standards for onsite Teal instructors supporting:
Drone training schools
Partner training facilities
Customer training centers
Develop instructor certification and recertification standards to ensure consistency across training locations.
Ensure training programs support safe operation, regulatory compliance, and mission effectiveness.
Internal Operator Training & Workforce Readiness
Establish internal operator certification standards for Teal employees who operate aircraft for:
Engineering testing
Production validation
Quality assurance
Customer demonstrations
Field trials
Develop internal qualification pathways for:
Test pilots and engineering operators
Manufacturing validation personnel
Field service and support teams
Ensure standardized safety, operational discipline, and aircraft handling procedures are consistently applied across the organization.
Develop recurring internal proficiency and recertification standards.
Ensure internal operators reflect best-in-class safety and professionalism consistent with defense and commercial aviation standards.
Technical Onboarding & Engineering Training
Develop structured onboarding programs for:
New engineers
Manufacturing personnel
Program managers
Customer support teams
Create technical system-level training modules that ensure new hires understand:
Aircraft architecture
Flight control systems
Payload integration
Communication systems
Software-hardware interaction
Failure modes and operational limitations
Build cross-functional training modules that increase system-level awareness across departments.
Ensure engineering and manufacturing teams understand how customer training and operational realities influence product design.
Establish internal “platform certification” programs for technical staff working directly on flight systems.
Quality Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Own enterprise quality strategy across manufacturing, supplier quality, field performance, and operational feedback.
Maintain and evolve Teal’s Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 standards (AS9100 experience preferred).
Establish closed-loop feedback between:
Training observations
Field failures and RMAs
Customer feedback
Internal test results
Engineering and manufacturing improvements
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes (CAPA).
Establish quality metrics and dashboards to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure training data informs quality initiatives and product reliability improvements.
Customer Enablement & Operational Adoption
Ensure customers achieve rapid operational readiness following delivery.
Oversee onboarding and enablement processes for new customers and new platform deployments.
Lead development of operational manuals, training documentation, and customer-facing technical content.
Support major deployments, demonstrations, and program fielding activities.
Ensure sustainment and lifecycle support training frameworks are scalable as fleet size increases.
Cross-Functional Integration
Serve as the operational bridge between Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Customer Operations.
Ensure usability, reliability, safety, and training insights directly inform product improvements.
Support proposal efforts by defining training and sustainment strategies aligned with customer requirements.
Align internal training, quality systems, and external customer training into a unified operational readiness framework.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
Build and lead teams across:
Instructional design
Training delivery and instructors
Quality engineering
Customer enablement
Technical documentation
Establish scalable instructor staffing models to support expanding deployments and training demand.
Develop internal and partner instructor pipelines.
Build a culture of disciplined execution, operational excellence, and safety.
Required Qualifications
12+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, aviation, or complex technical systems.
Demonstrated leadership in instructional design and technical training program development.
Experience developing operator or maintainer training curriculum for technical systems.
Experience building training programs for both government and commercial customers.
Experience leading quality or operational excellence initiatives in a production environment.
Experience working within an ISO 9001 (or similar) quality management system.
Strong understanding of adult learning methodologies and structured curriculum development.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, full-time onsite engineering and manufacturing environment.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience with unmanned aircraft systems or ISR platforms.
Military training or defense training systems background.
Experience supporting institutional training environments or training schools.
Familiarity with FAA or international drone regulatory environments.
AS9100 or aerospace quality management experience.
Experience supporting international customers or allied deployments.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
