Job Title: Iron Erector

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling and installing structural steel components for a variety of commercial and institutional construction projects. The position welcomes candidates with or without prior iron erection experience, as comprehensive training is available for the right individual. You will work at heights, outdoors year-round, and collaborate closely with a small, tight-knit crew to complete projects safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and install structural steel components for buildings such as schools, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail spaces, medical buildings, and apartment complexes.

  • Work at heights safely while following all safety procedures and using appropriate fall protection and equipment.

  • Use basic math skills to take accurate measurements and perform necessary calculations for layout, cutting, and alignment.

  • Assist with crane operations and signaling as needed to safely move and position steel members.

  • Perform basic welding and structural steel connection tasks as required for the project scope.

  • Work effectively as part of a crew of 5–20 people, collaborating with immediate teammates of 1–3 people to complete daily assignments.

  • Operate tools and equipment commonly used in structural steel erection, following safety and maintenance guidelines.

  • Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.

  • Travel to job sites outside the Sioux Falls area (approximately 20% of the time) as project needs require.

  • Maintain reliable attendance and follow project schedules, including occasional early starts or later end times based on job requirements.

  • Complete all tasks with a strong focus on quality, structural integrity, and adherence to project specifications.

  • Successfully complete and comply with all pre-employment screenings and ongoing safety requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Willingness to learn iron erection and structural steel work, with training provided for the right candidate.

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at heights for extended periods.

  • Basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations.

  • Physical endurance and strength to handle the demands of structural steel work, including lifting, climbing, and working on your feet throughout the day.

  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.

  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work well within small crews and larger site teams.

  • Willingness and availability to travel to job sites outside of Sioux Falls approximately 20% of the time.

  • Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings.

  • Consistent and reliable attendance and work history.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in structural steel erection or construction is beneficial but not required.

  • Experience with crane operation or assisting crane operators is a plus.

  • Welding experience related to structural steel is an advantage.

  • Experience construction, steel erection, or structural work is helpful.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with varying schedules depending on job needs.

Work Environment

You will work primarily on commercial and institutional construction sites, including schools, manufacturing buildings, warehouses, new retail developments, hospital and medical facilities, and apartment complexes. The typical work schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional earlier start times or later end times depending on project demands. Work takes place outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, and much of the work is performed at heights on structural steel. Crews generally consist of 5–20 people, with immediate working groups of 1–3 team members, fostering a strong sense of teamwork and support. The culture emphasizes family values, collaboration, and helping one another on the job. A practical dress code is in place: shorts are not allowed, and employees must wear work boots suitable for a construction environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
