Paraprofessional (often titled Instructional Assistant ) provides essential instructional, behavioral, and physical support to students, particularly those in special education programs . These roles are crucial for maintaining inclusive classrooms and helping students meet their Individualized Education Program (IEP) (https://www.wilsonsd.org/page/behavior-supports) goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Support: Reinforce lessons by working with students one-on-one or in small groups to review material initially introduced by the teacher.
Behavioral Management: Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and model appropriate social behaviors.
Student Supervision: Supervise students during non-instructional times, including arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, and on field trips.
Specialized Care: Provide physical support, which may include assisting with personal hygiene, toileting, or lifting/transferring students as needed.
Data Collection: Help teachers monitor and record data on student progress and behavioral performance for documentation and evaluation.
