Investment Counselor – North Asia
We are seeking an experienced Investment Counselor (IC) to join our Citi Wealth team supporting North Asia markets . This role sits at the center of our investment advisory model and partners closely with Client Advisors to deliver differentiated portfolio guidance and investment solutions to high-net-worth clients.
As a recognized investment specialist, the Investment Counselor is a strategic professional who stays abreast of market developments and investment trends, translating Citi’s Chief Investment Office (CIO) views into actionable and client-centric investment advice. Your mission is to elevate investment advisory, drive investment revenue, grow Net New Investment Assets (NNIA), and solidify Citi’s leadership position in premier wealth advisory.
The Opportunity
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with some of Citi’s most dynamic high-net-worth clients, including entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals across North Asia. These clients value timely market insights, robust portfolio construction, and a trusted investment advisor who can guide them through changing market conditions.
The Investment Counselor plays a key role in deepening client engagement, driving investment-led conversations, and supporting Client Advisors in growing share of wallet and winning new client relationships. This is a collaborative, client-facing role for a market-savvy professional with strong commercial instincts and a passion for delivering high-quality investment advice.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Investment Delivery
Serve as a trusted investment advisor to high-net-worth clients in partnership with Client Advisors, providing tailored investment advice aligned to client objectives and risk profiles
Deliver Citi CIO market views and investment strategies through direct client engagement, portfolio reviews, and customized proposals
Support investment execution, suitability assessments, portfolio construction, and post-sales follow-up for clients
Identify product-specific and thematic investment opportunities across asset classes and market cycles
Collaboration & Business Growth
Work closely with Client Advisors and Market Managers covering North Asian markets to enhance advisory effectiveness and client outcomes
Partner with Client Advisors to grow existing client relationships, increase share of wallet, and support acquisition of new high-net-worth prospects
Educate and update Client Advisors on investment products, portfolio strategies, and market developments
Collaborate with internal specialists and product partners to deliver holistic wealth solutions
Participate in and co-present at client meetings, investment forums, and client events as required
Performance & Accountability
Be accountable for investment product penetration, revenue contribution, growth in net new investment assets , and solution adoption
Provide a high level of responsiveness, communication, and service excellence to clients and internal stakeholders
Compliance, Risk & Controls
- Ensure full adherence to KYC/AML and all applicable regulatory and policy requirements. Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, with particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and the safeguarding of Citi, its clients, and assets. Apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalate, manage, and report control issues with transparency.
What You’ll Bring
10–15 years of experience in investment advisory, investment product sales, or a closely related role
Broad and solid understanding of financial markets, portfolio construction, and investment solutions across asset classes
Strong ability to explain complex investment concepts clearly and credibly to sophisticated clients
Client-centric mindset with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with relationship managers and cross-functional partners
Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is essential
Education
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree or professional certifications (eg. CFA or CAIA) are advantageous
Must meet and maintain all Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) licensing and regulatory requirements for providing investment advice
