Manulife Associate/ Analyst, Research (Equity) in Singapore, Singapore

This is an equities research role in the Singapore Manulife Equities Investment Team. The research effort will primarily be focused on the Singapore market. He will be expected to analyze stocks and sectors base on the company's/sector's fundamentals and make appropriate recommendations to the investment team. It will involve quantitative and qualitative financial analysis, building company's earnings model, and bottom-up company investigating work to contribute towards the team's investment decisions.

Position Responsibilities:

Our Investment Process / Philosophy

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the investment philosophy and process of the Singapore Investment Centre and a good understanding of the philosophy and process for Manulife Investment Management as a whole. To comply with this philosophy and process at all times throughout the investment process.

Investment Skills

Develop and maintain an investment skill as follows:

  • Investment theory and Quantitative Techniques – maintain a thorough knowledge of basic investment theory and the quantitative tools used in this Investment Centre

  • Analysis of the qualitative factors relevant to a company

  • Security analysis – analysis of cash flows, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, DCF etc and the ability to judge when our valuation of companies based on the above analysis is discounted by the markets and with appropriate ESG consideration.

  • Macro-economic analysis – maintain a detailed knowledge of the corresponding, economic and financial trends of your assigned countries and their impacts on markets, sectors and stock models.

  • Political consideration – maintain knowledge of the political situation and its potential impact on your assigned universe.

Investment Research

  • Actively initiate research on the Singapore market. These should include detailed sector and company analysis to reach a security conclusion and stock recommendation to the investment team with clear investment thesis and valuation.

  • Plan and make own visits in assigned markets and to produce detail research reports to a required standards using the company's investment framework in a timely manner.

  • Produce summary reports on findings from meetings /conference calls.

Performance

Responsible for the achievement of:

  • Timely recommendation of stock ideas to the investment team to be included in the team’s portfolio with consistent alpha generation.

  • Actively monitor stock recommendations and movements in the market, in order to recommend buy/sell decisions that can add value to the portfolio.

  • Consistency of recommendations that adds value to the portfolio over time will be valued

  • Ability to work independently in research, and ability to spot good sector or individual stock opportunities will be of great value

Required Qualifications:

  • Years of experience - 1-3 years of relevant experience

  • Proficiency of financial information systems like Bloomberg and financial modeling will be an advantage

  • Financial and Accounting background preferred.

  • Experienced with equities research in the Singapore market will be an advantage
