PPL Corporation Team Leader Transmission Operations Training in Simpsonville, Kentucky

Overview

This position is responsible for developing and delivering technical, safety, human performance, and compliance training to increase the capabilities and effectiveness of Transmission Operations and Balancing Authority personnel. Will assure the proficiency of Operations employees from newly hired through experienced Operators. Consults with management in the identification of technical skill deficiencies and provides relevant training remedies. Will create need assessments for employees and make recommendations to provide training to address those needs. Will provide direct supervision to operators (new or pending desk assignment) that are not yet assigned to an operating shift. Will assist in the preparation and delivery of new operator employee performance reviews as well as appraisals used for promotion purposes. Will work with other LG&E/KU trainers to assure consistency in approach throughout.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Designs, delivers, and tracks specialized training and required Operations training programs that meet business objectives, organizational values, operating principles, cultural change imperatives and required regulatory, safety and compliance requirements.

  • Will make recommendations to address critical areas where additional Operations training is identified.

  • Will participate in the evaluation of all new hires and assist in the preparation and delivery of new Operations employees’ performance reviews, promotion assessments and other relevant documentation.

  • Partners with departmental leadership in identifying and diagnosing technical skill deficiencies to determine and develop appropriate remedies such as formalized training programs, on-the-job training programs, self-study programs, etc.

  • Will work with the engineering group to support the needs of the operator training simulator and ensure simulations scenarios align with the training needs and training program.

  • Conducts training needs analysis to identify specialized and required technical, compliance and safety training and develops comprehensive training plans and long-range scheduling.

  • Designs and implements training evaluation procedures; monitors and evaluates effectiveness of training programs and administers written examinations and skill performance testing.

  • Continually strives to maximize training efficiencies through innovative training methods and application of new technologies for leading edge and cost-effective training.

  • Requires active participation in programs, seminars and organizations to enhance training skills, technical expertise and utility industry knowledge.

  • Monitors the training budget and provides direct input to control center management. Ensures the optimal utilization of training dollars for the benefit of the operators.Coordinate and complete annual review of the training program and BES company-specific Real-time reliability related tasks lists.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, English or Communication and 7+ years control room operational experience or an alternate combination of education and technical experience a year for year basis.

  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills with broad knowledge of company operations.

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical journals and regulations and the ability to interpret information for an audience of broad knowledge and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the operating line of business and the company’s operation and safety procedures.

  • Ability to develop technical training manuals.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed with the ability to interact with all levels within the company and the ability to lead and direct large numbers of employees within classroom settings.

  • Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.

  • NERC Certified System Operator (NCSO)
