Right of Way (ROW) Maintenance Worker
Location: Cemetery 1304 W. Lamar St Sherman, TX 75092
JOB SUMMARY
Grounds Maintenance Right of Way (ROW) Worker is an entry-level position with the Citys Grounds Maintenance Department. This position is primarily responsible for performing duties related to the maintenance within the Right of Way.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs tree trimming, chipping, weed eating, mowing and debris pick up.
- Perform semi-skilled work in accordance with specific instructions from a crew leader or supervisor.
- Safely operates hand tools, power tools, and other related machinery as necessary to accomplish assigned duties.
- Cleans, oils, and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment as necessary.
- Safely operate required equipment and machinery such as dump trucks, tractors with mower attachment, chainsaws, chippers, weed eaters and other maintenance related equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
The safe use and operation of the various hand tools and powered equipment commonly used in a commercial maintenance operations.
* Ability to:*
- Ability to gain a class B CDL within the first 6 months of employment.
- Safely and effectively operate required equipment, machinery and tools to complete assigned tasks.
- Understand and carry out both written and verbal work instructions.
- Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under variable weather conditions.
- Read, write and speak the English language.
- Ability to grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy (100lbs or more) objects repeatedly, on a daily basis.
- Work various shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays and on-call as required.
Experience and Education:Any combination equivalent to the level of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities will qualify.
Experience:
Previous work experience performing duties related to the construction, maintenance of the Right of Way.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Licenses:
Possession of a valid Class C Driver License required;
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License, with the appropriate endorsements is a requirement for continued employment and must be obtained within six month from date of hire.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
The duties of this position are primarily performed outdoors in a field environment where the incumbent can reasonably expect to be exposed to all weather conditions and various hazardous substances such as explosive Fuels, oils and other lubricants, dust and moderately loud noise levels on a routine basis. Incumbents in this position can expect to routinely push, pull, lift and carry a minimum of 100lbs daily without assistance. Additionally, incumbents in this position should be physically able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel and reach in the performance of their daily duties. Incumbents in this position may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays and on an on-call basis.
This position has been classified as a safety-sensitive position. All incumbents assigned to a safety-sensitive position shall be required to comply with all provisions of the City of Sherman, Texas Commercial Vehicle Drivers Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
