Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Shop Lead / Foreman to oversee day-to-day operations in our fabrication shop. This role is for someone who thrives on responsibility, pushes projects forward, and knows how to lead from the front. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, no-excuses leader with the mindset to get things done, keep the crew moving, and deliver top-quality work under tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Leadership
- Drive daily shop activities to meet deadlines and keep projects on schedule.
- Assign tasks to welders, fitters, and fabricators, ensuring maximum efficiency.
- Enforce quality standards and precision in all structural steel and fabrication work.
- Team Development
- Motivate and hold the crew accountable --- build a culture of discipline and teamwork.
- Train and mentor newer team members in proper shop techniques and safety.
- Lead by example: first in, last out, with a "don't quit" mentality.
- Workflow & Efficiency
- Monitor material flow, equipment usage, and workstations to prevent bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to align shop work with drawings/specs.
- Identify problems early, provide solutions fast, and keep jobs moving forward.
- Safety & Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Promote pride in workmanship --- every piece leaving the shop reflects Axe Build's reputation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a noisy, industrial environment.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
