Volunteers of America Director of Communications in Sheridan, Wyoming
*Summary/Objective *
The Director of Communications is responsible for leading the Communications Team with thoughtful strategy in the development and management of effective communications and marketing to reach key stakeholders for VOA.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the development, maintenance, and growth of the organizational website, social media outlets, and other external communications efforts
- Works closely with leadership from across VOA to create communications and marketing collateral to meet program needs and to support all aspects of branding, fundraising, public policy, and services
- Create, direct, and manage a public relations and media relations program that develops strong relationships, obtains significant positive media coverage, and supports all aspects of integrated operations
- Lead message strategies and effectively present and expand awareness of the organization's mission, vision, values, and services
- Leads the creation and delivery of fund-raising materials to assist the Development Team
- Manages effective measurement systems to evaluate marketing and communications efforts
- Manages the VOA Media Studio, ensuring high quality production of internal and external video and podcast content
- Write and edit letters, appeals, and other materials to support the organization
- Builds VOA identity and protects its graphic and trademarked properties, as long-term assets of the organization
- Partners with the VOA Inc. (national office) to achieve marketing and communications goals

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and may serve as a coach and mentor for other organization positions.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool, as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is expected for this position.
Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, advertising, brand management, or public relations
- Two or more years of successful employee supervision, and department leadership
- Must be motivated, innovative, and comfortable in front of people; have good decision-making and good interactive skills; must be goal-oriented, have high energy, and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and w itten
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience as a designer, copywriter, or photographer for print or digital media
- Advanced experience in television and radio production, web-based communication, printing processes, media planning, photography, and/or marketing research
