JOB SUMMARY
The COMMERCIAL ROOFING FOREMAN is responsible for directing the removal, preparation, and installation of various types of roofing systems for primarily commercial roofing. Steep slope/Residential roofing experience is a plus but not required. This position oversees and performs physical labor as part of a production crew and assists in all phases of commercial roofing projects including tear-off, installation, flashing, clean-up, and jobsite safety/housekeeping. This role requires strong technical skills, and attention to detail. The role requires reliability, physical endurance, and the ability to LEAD a team to complete projects safely, efficiently, and to company and manufacturer standards. The FOREMAN must be able to give direction, work within a team of others to perform a task, perform skilled details, work at heights, and ensure that all work is performed to code and in accordance with specifications.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Crew Management
1. LEAD assigned production crew on commercial roofing projects, setting expectations for safety, quality, and productivity.
2. ASSIGN daily tasks and responsibilities to crew members based on project needs and individual skill levels.
3. TRAIN, COACH, and MENTOR crew members on proper installation techniques, safety practices, and company standards.
4. COLLABORATE with the assigned crew and work for the benefit of all.
5. HOLD CREW MEMBERS ACCOUNTABLE for performance, attendance, workmanship, and safety compliance.
6. PROMOTE teamwork, professionalism, and a positive jobsite culture.
Production & Quality
1. OVERSEE all phases of commercial roofing installation including tear-off, insulation, membrane systems, flashing, edge metal, and detail work.
2. ENSURE all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, drawings, company standards, and applicable codes.
3. INSPECT completed work regularly to verify quality and address deficiencies promptly.
4. COORDINATE workflow to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
Safety & Compliance
1. ENFORCE all OSHA regulations, fall protection requirements, PPE usage, and company safety policies.
2. CONDUCT daily jobsite safety checks and participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
3. IDENTIFY AND CORRECT unsafe conditions immediately.
4. REPORT incidents, near misses, hazards, and injuries according to company procedures.
5. ENSURE proper setup, use, and removal of safety equipment including guardrails, harnesses, ladders, and scaffolding.
6. MAINTAIN clean and safe job sites, following OSHA safety protocols and company guidelines.
7. LEAD in weekly trainings and manufacturer system-specific training.
8. ATTEND all companywide training events and any other training as assigned.
Communication & Documentation
1. SERVE AS PRIMARY ONSITE CONTACT between the crew and Production Superintendent or Project Manager.
2. COMMUNICATE daily progress, manpower needs, material needs, delays, and issues.
3. TRACK AND REPORT crew hours, production progress, and jobsite conditions as required.
4. COORDINATE material staging and ensure proper handling and storage of materials.
Hands-On Work
1. PERFORM roofing installation work alongside the crew as needed.
2. OPERATE hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
3. ASSIST with equipment operation, mate ial handling, and complex installation details when required.
4. PERFORMS OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of commercial roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques. Experience with steep-slope and residential applications preferred but not required.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to lead and supervise crews effectively.
Ability to use hand and power tools, safely and effectively.
Ability to pay attention to quality and safety with a goal of installing correctly and working safely with a willingness to make improvements.
