About the Role
Alpine Home Air is seeking a Director of Logistics, Freight & Network Optimization to own the economics, performance, and risk of our inbound and outbound freight network.
This role exists because freight is no longer a transactional function — it is a decision system that directly impacts margins, damage rates, customer experience, and operational behavior across the company.
This is a senior, analytical leadership role responsible for designing, optimizing, and governing the freight system, not merely managing shipments. The mandate is to turn logistics from a cost center into a controlled, measurable, continuously improving system.
Authority & Scope
Full ownership of freight strategy, carrier relationships, and cost outcomes
Authority over carrier selection, contracts, and rate structures
Ownership of freight-related SLAs, claims, and accessorial management
Partner-level authority with Warehouse, ERP, Analytics, and Finance leadership
Decision authority independent of short-term operational or sales pressure
Core Responsibilities
Freight Economics & Strategy
Own all inbound and outbound freight spend across LTL, TL, parcel, and hybrid modes
Design carrier strategy to balance cost, reliability, and damage risk
Lead rate negotiations, contract structuring, and performance enforcement
Eliminate hidden cost drivers including accessorials, reclasses, and inefficiencies
Network & Mode Optimization
Optimize mode selection based on shipment characteristics, cost, and service requirements
Identify opportunities to consolidate, re-route, or redesign freight flows
Evaluate carrier mix and network design to reduce variance and risk
Damage, Claims & Risk Management
Own freight-related damage economics end-to-end
Design and enforce claims processes that recover value consistently
Identify root causes of damage in partnership with warehouse execution teams
Drive packaging, palletization, and handling standards to reduce loss
Data, Metrics & Reporting
Define freight KPIs that reflect true cost, performance, and risk
Partner with analytics to build PowerBI dashboards for freight visibility
Identify where metrics are masking real cost drivers and correct them
Ensure freight data integrity across ERP and carrier systems
ERP & Systems Integration
Develop deep working understanding of Alpine’s custom ERP freight logic
Ensure freight processes are correctly represented in system workflows
Close gaps between system assumptions and real-world carrier behavior
AI & Automation Enablement
Identify and implement AI-assisted workflows for:
Rate anomaly detection
Carrier performance scoring
Damage and claims pattern analysis
Shipment risk prediction
Translate freight realities into inputs automation systems can reliably act on
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner closely with Warehouse Systems & Execution leadership on:
Packaging standards
Pallet configurations
Shipment readiness and handling practices
Work with Finance to align freight economics with margin and pricing strategy
Required Experience
7+ years in logistics, freight, or network optimization leadership
Proven ownership of multi-million-dollar freight spend
Strong analytical capability; comfortable working with complex data
Experience partnering with custom ERP systems and BI tools (PowerBI or equivalent)
Systems thinker who understands incentives, contracts, and behavior
Calm, high-agency leader able to hold authority without escalation or drama
Pragmatic curiosity about AI and automation (applied, not theoretical)
Benefits
Group health insurance plus health savings account, 401k, paid time off, paid holidays, life insurance, short-term disability and more
Paid educational and professional development training
