    Shenandoah Community Schools is seeking a visionary and high-energy Head Football Coach to lead our program into the 2026-2027 season. The successful candidate will be responsible for the total operation of the football program, including varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels, as well as coordinating with middle school feeder programs. We are looking for a leader who prioritizes character development, academic excellence, and the physical safety of our student-athletes while maintaining a competitive and disciplined team culture.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    1. Program Leadership & Strategy
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive football philosophy and playbook aligned with school values.

  • Oversee all aspects of game-day operations.

  • Establish and maintain a year-round strength and conditioning program.

    1. Student-Athlete Development
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress, ensuring all players meet or exceed eligibility requirements.

  • Foster an environment of sportsmanship, integrity, and "Total Person" development.

  • Assist qualified student-athletes in the college recruitment process, including maintaining digital portfolios and liaising with collegiate scouts.

    1. Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure 100% compliance with state of Iowa and Shenandoah school policies.

  • Maintain rigorous safety standards, including up-to-date concussion protocols, heat acclimatization, and "Heads Up" tackling techniques.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Teaching certificate preferred but not required).

  • Experience: Minimum of [3–5] years of successful coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level (Coordinator or Head Coach experience preferred).

  • Certifications (Required for 2026-2027):

  • Valid Iowa Coaching Permit/Certification.

  • Current First Aid / CPR / AED Certification.

  • NFHS Concussion in Sports & Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification.

  • Clearances: Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check.

    Preferred Skills

  • Expertise in modern offensive/defensive schemes and data-driven performance analytics.

  • Strong communication skills for engaging with parents, media, and the local community.

  • Experience in community outreach and growing youth/middle school participation.

    Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and demonstrate football techniques.

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (extreme heat/cold).

  • Regular travel to away games.
