The High School Esports Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and supervising the school's esports program in alignment with district goals, academic standards, and student development objectives. The coach provides leadership that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, digital citizenship, strategic thinking, and responsible gaming while fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and lead all aspects of the high school esports program
Supervise practices, matches, tournaments, and team meetings
Teach game strategy, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
Promote positive behavior, sportsmanship, and digital citizenship
Monitor student academic eligibility in compliance with school and district policies
Ensure student safety and appropriate online conduct during practices and competitions
Collaborate with school staff, administration, parents/guardians, and esports leagues
Maintain equipment, software, and gaming schedules in coordination with school technology staff
Manage team rosters, match schedules, and league participation
Model professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students
Follow all district policies, state activities association guidelines, and applicable esports league rules
Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience with competitive gaming and esports titles commonly used in high school programs
Ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Ability to supervise students in person and in online environments
Successful completion of background check and any district-required trainings
Preferred:
Prior coaching, teaching, or youth leadership experience
Knowledge of esports leagues
Experience promoting inclusivity and positive team culture
Familiarity with streaming platforms and match broadcasting tools
Work Schedule
Practices and competitions held after school hours
Schedule varies based on season, league requirements, and school calendar
May include evenings and occasional weekends
Physical and Mental Demands
Ability to supervise students for extended periods
Ability to sit or stand for long durations during practices and matches
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced educational environment
