Summary
The Sr. Electrical Engineer leads the electrical designs for our various Automation & Robotics products as well as adds value through data-driven decision-making by making our equipment intelligent in the fields of predictive maintenance, uptime improvement, increase output, etc. This position reports to the Sr Manager Automation Engineering and Test and operates from Ranpak’s Automation site in Shelton, Connecticut USA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Works as a collaborative electrical engineering team member applying electrical engineering principles to develop design solutions for electromechanical machine control
Confirms electrical systems and component’s capabilities and quality by designing testing plans
Prepares engineering reports, calculations and checks drawings for completeness and accuracy
Interacts with vendors, suppliers, to select electrical components/subassemblies that comply with machine requirements and specifications
Troubleshoots equipment as required in house and at customer facilities
Develops operation manuals and other pertinent documentation
Responsible for electrical design and panel layout using EPLAN
Supports prototype builds and releases products into production
Responsible for the electrical design, development, testing and reports for new product introduction (NPI) projects
Participates in design projects, customized products, existing product maintenance, quality improvements and cost reduction
Basic understanding of communication protocol such as Modbus, Ethernet IP, Profinet, etc. deployment groups and assists with patch analysis. Builds application deployment packages and scripts for deployment (Intune)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
7-10 years of related electrical engineering experience
PLC programming experience is a plus
Working knowledge of electrical systems, electrical troubleshooting, and electrical design
Basic understanding of embedded controllers, embedded software and PLCs for automated machines
Familiarity with design and application of various sensor technologies
Familiarity with user interface technology, HMIs such as touchscreen displays
Self-motivated and innovative, yet an exceptional product development team player
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
EPLAN experience required
Willing to travel up to 10% of the time

Choice of sitting or standing or alternating between them (stand-up desk optional)
Keyboarding/typing on a computer for extended periods of time
Moderate noise, i.e., phones, printer, light foot traffic
