Your day at NTT DATA
The Team Lead, Data Engineering is an entry level people management role, responsible for providing day-to-day guidance and coordination for a small team of data engineers.
This role combines foundational technical knowledge with early-stage leadership responsibilities, focusing on supporting team collaboration, ensuring delivery of data engineering tasks, and contributing to the development of scalable data solutions.
This role is ideal for individuals transitioning from a technical role into people management.
Key responsibilities:
Guide and support a small team of data engineers in their daily tasks.
Assist with onboarding and provide basic mentoring under the direction of senior managers.
Help plan and track progress of data engineering projects.
Communicate priorities and timelines clearly to the team; and escalate risks and issues to senior management when needed.
Contribute to building and maintaining data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
Apply best practices in ETL processes and data quality checks; and support troubleshooting and basic performance optimization.
Work with analysts and business stakeholders to understand data needs.
Translate simple business requirements into technical tasks with guidance from senior engineers.
Identify small process improvements and share ideas with the team.
Assist in monitoring KPIs for data systems and report findings.
To thrive in this role, you need to have:
Basic proficiency in SQL and Python.
Familiarity with ETL concepts and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
Introductory knowledge of handling unstructured data (JSON, text files, logs).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to coordinate tasks and support team collaboration.
Problem-solving mindset, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Certifications in cloud or data fundamentals (AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals) are a plus.
Experience:
Relevant experience in data engineering or related technical role.
Exposure to data pipeline development and basic project coordination.
Some experience in developing and mentoring a team.
