Alamo Group Inc. Production Supervisor - Machine Shop in Seguin, Texas
Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the manufacturing of Company products: fabrication and machining. Organizes and maintains production schedules and coordinates flow of material and labor through department. Fully accountable for owning the results in assigned area of responsibility and able to adapt quickly to changing customer and production demands. Holds employees accountable for safety, quality, and production efficiency in assigned area of responsibility while also ensuring on-time delivery. Responsible for programming department Burn Tables. Initiates process improvements independently and follows through to ensure improvements are fully implemented and sustained.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Determines staffing levels and manpower schedules based on work load and knowledge of machines, materials, and equipment. Works closely with production planning and control.
Supervises workers engaged in production of wholegoods and parts. Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment. Assists in resolution of malfunctions and/or problems. Identifies and coordinates repairs.
Requisitions materials, dies and fixtures required to meet production. Coordinates flow of material through department. Ensures work orders and material transactions are accurate and complete.
Prioritizes and assigns work orders to maintain on-time delivery and independently develops production recovery plans when manpower, machinery, or material constraints have caused on-time delivery to drop below required levels.
Monitors backlog problems, work order flow, and bottleneck problems.
Recommends improvements to production methods, equipment, quality, working conditions and efficiency. Assists employees with work related problems.
Maintains time and production records. Analyzes departmental performance to identify areas for improvement and adapts accordingly.
Initiates or recommends personnel action(s) such as promotions, transfers, disciplinary measures and/or terminations through appropriate channels and/or by following proper procedures. Completes and administers subordinates’ performance evaluations.
Conducts and monitors training programs to enhance subordinates’ job performance. Suggests and initiates plans to motivate workers to achieve goals. Conducts departmental employee meetings.
Maintains department safety and housekeeping procedures.
Analyzes work orders to determine information such as material to be used, type of operation, and sequence of work orders required.
Inspects work to ensure accuracy of specifications. Directs routings of rejects and reworks. Investigates and determines causes of defects and takes corrective action.
Responsible for programming burn tables.
May be required to perform other assigned duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
Knowledge and understanding of production processes, materials, equipment, fabrication and tools. Ability to interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders.
Knowledge of preventative and routine maintenance of equipment.
Knowledge of part design, layout, machine functions, capacities/output potential, variety of machine and/or setup/operating techniques, metal properties and methods.
Ability to operate forklift.
Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement options and solutions.
Able to follow through on tasks independently.
Strong planning skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Knowledge of basic math.
Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operator’s manuals, and assembly instructions.
Able to use hand and power tools and perform basic measurements using tape measure, protractor and other measuring devices.
Able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written. Good human relations skills.
Skilled and proficient with the use of personal computers; including standard office software (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
Proficient in Solid Works and Sigma Nest or other nesting software.
Good leadership skills; able to problem solve, persuade, motivate and train others.
Good coordination skills, able to plan, prioritize and organize various work activities.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or Technical School in related field preferred or 6+ years of previous experience; preferably in a metal manufacturing production environment.
Minimum 5 years combined manufacturing experience with demonstrated increasing areas/levels of responsibility.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience (manufacturing environment preferred).

Must be able to lift 35 pounds alone and greater than 35 pounds with assistance.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment while performing work in production environment.
Operates forklift and overhead crane to move parts and materials.
Must have current, insurable driver’s license as this position requires travel to customer locations.
Must be able to work overtime (including weekends) as needed to complete job assignments.
Must present/maintain a professional appearance.
Able to travel independently (25-50%) on short notice.
