Vigor Industrial LLC Structural Engineer II, Marine in Seattle, Washington

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The primary role of a Structural Project Engineer is to participate in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels.

 

The Structural Engineer II supports the design, analysis, and implementation of structural systems for Vigor Marine Fabrication programs. This position applies established engineering principles and shipbuilding standards to develop structural designs, resolve technical issues, and support fabrication and installation activities.

 

Working under general supervision, the Structural Engineer II collaborates closely with production, planning, quality, and program management to ensure structural designs are safe, compliant, meet performance and cost-to-produce requirements and are executable within shipyard constraints

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design vessel structures which meet requirements set forth in the vessel specification, creating models, drawings, and detailed bills of materials.
  • Loft and nest all vessel parts for CNC cutting.
  • Perform structural analysis and design in support of marine fabrication and shipyard projects.
  • Develop and review structural drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Comply with Vigor drawing release processes and procedures.
  • Support estimators during preliminary stages of project.
  • Support production personnel during construction phase of project.
  • Participate in sea trials of completed vessels.
  • Maintain engineering block library and structural standards documents.
  • Develop and review structural drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Support weight, stability, and structural integration assessments and reporting as required.
  • Support fabrication, installation, and repair activities by resolving structural engineering issues.
  • Evaluate and disposition non-conformances, repairs, and deviations related to structural work.
  • Coordinate with planners, weld engineers, and production leads to ensure designs are executable.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable rules, codes, and standards (ABS, USCG, NAVSEA, AISC, etc.).
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a production shipyard environment

     

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

May be asked to supervise and mentor a team of up to two engineers and designers or provide oversight on engineering subcontractors as they carry out design tasks. relevant

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: 

This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations and circumstances. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the organization and outside of the organization is essential in this role.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Very strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred

Must be detail oriented and able to work with extremely tight specifications.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Able to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.

Experience must include good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical and outfit details
