The Senior Project Accountant plays a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial management for a portfolio of large, complex projects. This position partners closely with Project Managers and Finance leadership to manage full lifecycle project accounting, including setup, billing, reporting, reconciliation, and financial analysis. The role supports overall project performance and profitability while contributing to a growing, innovative organization with nationwide projects and strong internal development opportunities.
Responsibilities
Manage full lifecycle (cradle-to-grave) project accounting for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
Partner closely with Project Managers to set up new projects, including establishing budgets, billing terms, and financial structures in the financial management system.
Oversee project billing processes, including preparation, review, and submission of invoices, and ensure alignment with contract terms and client requirements.
Monitor financial performance of projects, including tracking revenue, costs, margins, and variances, and proactively communicate results to Project Managers and Finance leadership.
Apply appropriate revenue recognition methodologies for projects in the architecture, engineering, and construction environment, ensuring accurate and compliant revenue reporting.
Manage contracts and amendments from a financial perspective, ensuring project financials and billing structures reflect current terms and conditions.
Perform regular reconciliations of project accounts, including work-in-progress, billed and unbilled revenue, and other key balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Prepare and deliver project financial reports and analyses to Directors, C-suite leaders, and other stakeholders, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
Support the forecasting and budgeting process for assigned projects, providing input on expected revenues, costs, and cash flows.
Collaborate with Finance and Corporate Accounting teams to ensure consistency of project accounting practices and alignment with overall financial reporting.
Handle a high volume of concurrent work by managing upwards of 25 projects and coordinating with 5–6 Project Managers at a time.
Use Deltek Vantagepoint or a similar financial management system to maintain accurate project data, run reports, and support decision-making.
Leverage Microsoft Office tools to analyze data, build schedules, and prepare presentations and reports for leadership.
Work effectively under pressure and within tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders at all levels, including Directors and C-suite, to explain project financial performance and recommendations.
Essential Skills
3–7 years of project accounting experience managing projects of $10M or more within the architecture, engineering, or construction (A/E) industry.
Demonstrated experience with project accounting in an architectural design and construction environment.
Hands-on experience using Deltek Vantagepoint or a similar financial management system.
Strong knowledge of revenue recognition concepts and their application to project-based work.
Proven ability to manage a high volume of concurrent projects, including upwards of 25 projects and coordination with 5–6 Project Managers.
Experience with contracts management and understanding of financial implications of contract terms and amendments.
Proficiency in reconciliation of project accounts and related financial statements.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for analysis and reporting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly to Directors and C-suite leaders.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working within a corporate accounting or centralized finance team supporting multiple offices or regions.
Comfort presenting complex financial information to Senior leadership and non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to build strong working relationships with Project Managers and cross-functional teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines across multiple projects.
Interest in contributing to a growing, innovative organization with nationwide projects and internal development opportunities.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office presence required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Standard work hours can be flexibly adjusted based on project location and needs. The position may be based in San Francisco (preferred), Seattle, or Salt Lake City. The work setting is collaborative and fast-paced, with a supportive team culture that emphasizes internal promotion, professional growth, and participation in innovative projects across the country. You will work extensively with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar financial management systems and Microsoft Office tools to support project and corporate financial needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $98500.00/yr.
