Software Development Engineer (Frontend Focus) - AWS Identity and Access Management
About the Team:
At AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), we build and operate the authentication and authorization infrastructure that secures the AWS cloud. Our systems process tens of millions of transactions per second, making it one of the largest distributed systems globally. We're part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which powers core AWS services including S3, EC2, and continues to drive industry-leading innovations across Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity services.
Role Overview:
We're seeking a Software Development Engineer with frontend expertise to develop and enhance user experiences across multiple AWS consoles. In this role, you'll create intuitive, secure, and scalable frontend solutions that help customers manage access across their AWS environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement frontend applications using Java and JavaScript
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and UX designers to build user-friendly security management interfaces
Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement in application performance and security
Contribute to architectural decisions for frontend systems at scale
Implement and maintain frontend security best practices
Required Skills:
Proficiency in JavaScript and Java
Experience building responsive, scalable web applications
Understanding of modern frontend frameworks and web standards
Knowledge of web security best practices
Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
