Arup Senior Rail Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Given our growing business, Arup is looking for an accomplished Senior Rail Engineer who wants to accelerate their career by joining our rail team in Seattle and playing an integral role in the growth of our Rail business in the Pacific Northwest. The Senior Rail Engineer will focus on executing current rail project work as well as pursuit of new rail projects. As a Senior Rail Engineer you will:

  • Review rail alignment, track and special trackwork design drawings, material submittals, specifications, and other technical documents.

  • Provide technical reviews of design models, including track components, drainage infrastructure, clearance, and rail alignment using CAD modelling tools and applicable codes and standards.

  • Supervise the progress of track infrastructure construction (i.e. rail, ties, track bed, turnouts, direct fixation appurtenances). Prepare project records tracking construction progress, field conditions, quality items, corrective actions, non-conformances, and design changes.

  • Provide feedback to the contractor’s monthly schedule and review payment claims based on work progress.

  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with clients and engineering partners. Coordinate between the different parties to manage differing requests, design issues, and overall progress of track infrastructure work.

  • Prepare technical reports from field oversight and site visits to be shared with the client and relevant partners.

  • Perform field inspections and reporting of contractor’s work during scheduled outages.

  • Assist with the production of biweekly progress maps depicting the overall project’s development.

  • Prepare meeting user documentation (memos, minutes, agenda) upon request.

  • Ensure the integration of disciplines with the track designs with the overall design of the railroad system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • Knowledge of ballasted and ballastless (direct fixation, low vibration, imbedded and floating slab) track, special trackwork designs, track drainage design, railroad utilities, and rail systems engineering

  • 6+ years’ experience in trackwork design, rail and/or infrastructure projects

  • Demonstrable understanding of the implications of digital and data in the planning and development of civil designs

  • Experience of design build procurement and delivery would be advantageous

  • Understanding of relevant design standards.

  • The ability to prioritize effectively and exceptional organization skills are required for our constantly evolving environment.

  • Effective presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels.

Seattle Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Seattle is $125,000 to $135,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Seattle will differ.
