Job Summary

The Certified Peer Lead provides strengths based peer support to individuals and families by drawing on lived experience, while also supervising and supporting peer staff. This role carries a reduced caseload and provides weekly individual supervision, ensuring staff deliver high quality, responsive services that meet the diverse mental health and cultural needs of youth and families. The Certified Peer Lead oversees documentation and compliance with state, county, and contractual requirements; supports quality assurance, audits, and corrective actions; and represents the YMCA in interdisciplinary and community settings. This position partners closely with program leadership, internal YMCA teams, and external systems such as courts and probation to meet program and community needs, with a flexible schedule to accommodate clients.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.  

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Hiring Range: $28.00 - $31.00/hr

Responsibilities

  • Carry a caseload of up to 50% of an FTE for your team.

  • Supervise the WISe Peer Support Specialists.

  • Provides weekly individual supervision with each assigned supervisee.

  • Complete the supervisor’s peer training course.

  • Be a certified peer registered as an affiliated counselor with the state.

  • Maintain WA State peer and supervision credentials.

  • Monitors staff documentation and individual case records by utilizing the reports in the electronic health record, periodically spot-checking case records from each staff and ensuring timely documentation of services and productivity.

  • Reports all critical incidents and adheres to YMCA program rules and procedures.

  • Represents the YMCA at interdisciplinary community meetings.

  • Ensures all participants served receive high quality and effective services.

  • Ensures urgency, intensity and frequency of services calibrated to the youth and family’s individual cultural background and mental health needs, and that families are bridged to long term community support.

  • Ensure staff interface and effectively work with courts, probation department, and other agencies and professionals, and that they develop successful treatment programs for various types of individuals.

  • Conducts quality assurance (QA) activities so that all services are delivered and documented by WAC and King County contractual requirements and participates in formal QA review process.

  • Supports in the preparation of county or state audits and responds to corrective action post audit.

  • Partners with leaders in other YMCA programs and divisions to build community across the Y and to ensure participants are receiving relevant and effective services.

  • Flexible schedule to include evenings and possible weekends to meet the needs of clients.

  • Assist the participants assigned to the caseloads for Peer Support Specialists and Care Coordinators as necessary.

  • Assist in facilitating WISe meetings as needed.

  • Schedule weekly in-person sessions with participants assigned to Peer Support Specialists as necessary

  • Temporarily ensure that all responsibilities of the Care Coordinator for assigned participants are adequately addressed as necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervision

  • Responsible for Managing and overseeing specific employees, ensuring they meet organizational standards and objectives while adhering to company policies. Directly managing the day-to-day performance of staff, hiring, monitoring workflows, addressing performance issues and employee concerns.

    All employees and volunteers are responsible for adhering to abuse prevention policies, maintaining appropriate boundaries , completing required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and complying with mandated reporting requirements.

    Responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current WA State Certified Peer Counselor plus other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  • 2+ years of experience working with high risk, systems involved (i.e. homeless, justice, behavioral health, foster care) youth and/or young adults or equivalent experience providing community-based services to diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc).

  • Experience and knowledge with youth behavior management and child abuse prevention.

  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to visit sites and community organizations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    Authorized Driver Requirement:

    This role transports clients as an “authorized driver” for the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS) using your own vehicle ( proof of current auto insurance and vehicle registration are required ). Driving duties for this role are Required.* Driving roles are safety-sensitive . To become an authorized driver, you must be 21+, have possessed a driver's license for at least 3 years, and pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances (including marijuana) in addition to meeting the driving record standards below:

    YGS Driving Record Standards

    Within the last three (3) years: No more than two (2) vehicle related suspension(s) and/or reinstatement(s). No more than two (2) moving violations and/or accidents. Moving violations include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Speeding

  • Improper Lane Change

  • Failure to Yield in Right-of-Way

  • Failure to Obey Traffic Signal

  • Failure to obey Traffic Sign

    Within the last five (5) years: No Major Violations which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • DUI, DWI, OUI, OWI, BUI (Boating), Administrative Per Se, or Refusing to Test

  • Driving with an open container of alcohol

  • Reckless Driving

  • Hit and Run – property damage only (Incidents involving injury fall under Permanent Disqualification)

  • Racing

  • Driving with a suspended/revoked license/insurance

  • Speeding over 20 mph

  • Fleeing and/or eluding police

  • Any other felony driving conviction(s)

    Driving records that result in Permanent disqualification from driving duties:

  • More than 3 DUI, DWI, OUI, OWI, BUI, Administrative Per Se, or Refusing to Test for entirety of driving history.

  • More than 3 Driving with a suspended/revoked license

  • Hit and Run resulting in bodily injury or death

  • Manslaughter/felony death by motor vehicle

    *Due to state-specific reporting requirements in our driver management system, we are not currently able to enroll California Driver's License holders as Authorized Drivers.
