Actalent Fish Passage Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Lead Fish Passage EngineerThe Opportunity

A nationally respected engineering organization is seeking a Fish Passage Leader to guide complex, high‑impact projects across the Pacific Northwest and California. This role is designed for an experienced engineer who has already mastered the technical side of fish passage and is now interested in leading signature work, influencing outcomes, and mentoring teams—without sacrificing flexibility or autonomy.

You’ll work on major dam, fish passage, and hatchery projects that sit at the intersection of engineering, environmental stewardship, and public trust.

Your Role

  • Lead and shape large‑scale fish passage programs, particularly at dams and complex hydraulic structures.

  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to long‑standing clients, contributing to project strategy, scope, and delivery.

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders including Native American tribes, wildlife agencies, fish and game departments, and federal entities.

  • Guide heavy civil and structural components of fish passage and hatchery systems, ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance.

  • Help grow and strengthen fisheries engineering capabilities within the organization.

Your Experience

  • 8–15+ years of experience in fish passage, fisheries engineering, or related dam and water infrastructure work.

  • Deep expertise in fish ladders, screening and collection systems, fish elevators, trap‑and‑haul, and hatcheries.

  • Strong West Coast experience and understanding of regional regulatory environments.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the Pacific Northwest or California (or ability to obtain).

  • A leadership mindset—comfortable guiding teams, advising clients, and owning outcomes.

Why This Role Appeals to Lead Engineers

  • Work on career‑defining, environmentally meaningful projects.

  • Join a firm known for technical excellence, stability, and long‑term client relationships in fisheries and water resources.

  • Flexible hybrid work model with control over travel and scheduling.

  • A leadership seat focused on impact and quality, not volume or sales pressure.
