SCO Family of Services Teacher Assistant in Sea Cliff, New York
Teacher Assistant (Certified $20/Uncertified $19) Work with the classroom teacher and team to maintain a safe, positive, and therapeutic learning environment for students. Assist in providing academic instruction/IEP implementation, behavioral interventions, and following the school routine. Key Responsibilities Assisted classroom teacher in maintaining a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for students with special needs. Supported implementation of IEP goals and behavior intervention plans (BIPs), documenting progress and behavioral data. Helped students with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including feeding, grooming, and toileting, with sensitivity and care. Used tools like PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to promote communication and positive behavior. Developed calming strategies for children with autism, including sensory-based solutions tailored to individual needs. Modeled appropriate behavior and work ethic, fostering pro-social interactions between students and staff. Participated in field trips, seasonal activities, and community outings, ensuring student safety and engagement. Collaborated with teachers and interdisciplinary teams to support student development and classroom goals.
Qualifications:
High school Diploma Acceptable background clearance from NY State Central Registrar Experience working with the DD population preferred NYS Teacher Assistant Certification preferred
