Job Title: CNC Programmer and Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on developing, optimizing, and running CNC programs for tooling used in extrusion tooling solutions. You will program and operate CNC mills and wire EDM machines, interpret technical drawings, select appropriate cutting tools, and troubleshoot issues to ensure precise, efficient, and reliable tooling production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for tooling used in extrusion tooling solutions.
Program CNC mills and wire EDM machines to produce precision tooling components.
Set up, operate, and adjust CNC equipment to meet exact specifications and quality standards.
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to translate requirements into CNC programs.
Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters to maximize accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
Perform preventative maintenance on CNC and related manufacturing machinery to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-related issues on CNC and other production equipment.
Diagnose and resolve machining problems in real time to keep production running smoothly.
Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to improve tooling designs and machining processes.
Use CAD and CAM software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks, to support design and programming activities.
Conduct test runs, inspect finished parts, and adjust programs or setups to achieve desired tolerances.
Document programs, setups, and process changes to ensure repeatability and continuous improvement.
Work independently on multiple tasks and make quick, informed decisions to address equipment and process issues.
Support occasional overtime needs to meet production and maintenance requirements.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in CNC programming, including G-code and CAM systems.
Hands-on experience programming and operating CNC mills and CNC lathes.
Ability to program and work with wire EDM machines.
Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, including milling and turning.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints accurately.
Experience with CAD software, including AutoCAD, for drawing and design interpretation.
Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools for design and programming support.
Mechanical aptitude with experience in machining and manufacturing environments.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-related issues on machinery.
Experience performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions quickly in a production setting.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Manual machining skills to support setup, adjustments, and non-CNC operations.
No formal degree or certifications required; practical, hands-on experience is essential.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with extrusion tooling or similar precision tooling is a plus.
Background in maintenance or reliability within a manufacturing facility is beneficial.
Familiarity with PLC programming concepts and controls troubleshooting is advantageous.
Comfort working with both manual and CNC machines in a production environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, and production teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.
Willingness to work occasional overtime to support production and maintenance needs.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role with shifts typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime based on production and maintenance needs. The work takes place across two manufacturing buildings, where the production environment can become very hot, reaching temperatures up to approximately 110 degrees in the summer. You will work on and around CNC mills, CNC lathes, wire EDM machines, and other manufacturing equipment, using tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAM systems, and PLC-based controls. The culture expects mechanics and technicians to be proactive and decisive, taking ownership of problems and resolving them quickly to keep operations running. Team members are trusted to work independently while collaborating closely when issues arise. The dress code is practical and work-focused, with long pants and a work shirt as the standard attire, without a specific uniform requirement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scranton, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
