Walker River Paiute Tribe Force Account Crew in Schurz, Nevada

POSITION SUMMARY:

General construction and rehabilitation of existing units, to include carpentry, roofing, painting, tape and texturing, foundation construction, cabinet installation, plumbing, electrical and similar items.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Perform work in a safe manner.
  • Accomplish and complete daily work order reports when required.
  • Framing and forming, constructs, repairs, restores and installs structures such as floors, doors, walls, windows, stairways, furniture, cabinets, shelves, and roofs.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on hand and power saws, planers, lathes, joiners, shapers, drills, sanders and a variety of hand tools.
  • Installs locks, knobs, hinges, closures, and other fixtures to structures.
  • Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site area.
  • Reads and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Observe safety regulations and wear helmets and other prescribed protective equipment.
  • Report promptly any problem or obstacle about rehabilitation of progress to the foreman or supervisor for early resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of carpentry and building maintenance; of standard construction practices utilized in housing construction, renovation, and rehabilitation; and of materials and equipment used in all phases of housing construction and rehabilitation.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to lift heavy objects and perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other WRPTHD and Tribal staff, residents, agencies, businesses and the general public.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools; of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, read blueprints, utilize appropriate math skills.
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.
  • Knowledge of cabinet-making techniques.
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to estimate time and materials needed for assigned work projects.

  • You may be required to work in cramped areas or at considerable heights.
  • You may work outside at various times of the year and experience a considerable range of environmental conditions.
  • You need to be in good physical condition to carry or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Be an active team member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe Housing Department Team.

  • Actively participate in training and possess a desire to learn different skills.
  • Arrive on the jobsite ready to work at the start of everyday.
  • Work exceptionally well with others on the job, which includes all Housing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of operating hand tools and power tools and shop math.
  • Incumbent must provide their own tools.
  • Applicant must pass a drug test prior to employment, random testing throughout employment and pass background check.
  • Must have their own transportation, possess a valid Nevada Driver's License; must provide a current DMV print out with application.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • OSHA Certified.
