Join our dynamic Infectious Disease Developed Markets team located in Scarborough, Maine, as a Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS).
This role is ideal for an experienced EHS professional who works with minimal supervision and applies advanced Environmental, Health, and Safety knowledge to complete complex assignments and partner effectively with internal customers. The Manager, EHS is solutions‑oriented and demonstrates strong planning, direction, and execution of EHS initiatives.
In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert for select Abbott EHS management and technical standards and contribute to continuous improvement across the organization. You will also support the development of entry‑level EHS professionals by sharing best practices and personal expertise.
This position manages or provides EHS support to Abbott sites within a single division or across multiple divisions or corporate functions, ensuring compliance, risk reduction, and alignment with Abbott’s EHS strategy.
What You’ll Work On
Project Management:
Identifies plans and conducts or oversees complex and/or large-size projects.
Managing multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines.
Involved in site acquisitions, divestitures or product manufacturing transfer across facilities.
Performs and reviews feasibility studies related to project alternatives.
Maintains and reviews project controls and reporting for cost, scope and schedule. developing execution plan and contingency plan if necessary.
Fully understands the business requirements and possible impacts and has a thorough knowledge of the stakeholder needs and EHS compliance when developing a project scope.
Works with a wide degree of latitude to plan, conduct and direct projects. o Responsible for and collaborates with sites to achieve division/corporate EHS targets.
Acts as a lead person or technical expert on complex subjects and projects.
Contributes to the development of the site, division or corporate EHS Strategic Plan, meeting its objectives in a timely manner. o Has project budgetary responsibilities.
Technical:
Benchmarks internally and externally.
Keeps abreast of current EHS trends and practices.
Executes, directs and/or reviews EHS programs or projects.
Serves as a subject matter expert in their field of expertise.
Directs major projects requiring origination and application of new and unique approaches.
Conducts complex investigations.
Identifies and utilizes best-in-class analytical tools to perform job.
Set functional, site or divisional strategic and policy EHS direction.
Seeks opportunities to serve on internal multi-functional / divisional teams and external industry consortiums.
Problem Solving / Innovation:
Conceptualizes complete solutions for novel or complex problems.
Integrates regulatory and operational needs.
Conducts very complex investigations identifying root causes.
Based on root cause analysis, identifies and provides resources to implement solutions.
Lead EHS initiatives or programs that integrate cross-disciplinary and cross functional issues to arrive at optimal/best-in-class course of action.
Advocates multiple alternatives. o Applies technology in innovative ways.
Anticipates and addresses stakeholders needs
Organizational Interface:
Mentors' others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance. o Where appropriate, provides tasks / project assignment opportunities for employee development and evaluates performance.
Represents the organization as the primary EHS contact.
Interacts with both senior management, cross-divisional and external stakeholders on significant EHS matters.
Prepares and reviews written communication.
Conveys information effectively through formal and informal documents and meetings.
May move forward with action plans without seeking approval.

Provides/coordinates EHS organizational support to sites across the corporation or division.

Compliance:
Complies with all regulations and standards. o
Ensures EHS compliance and risk mitigation through risk assessments and implementation of strategies. o
Tracks and influences the development of proposed regulations, standards and emerging issues. o
Represents the company at trade/regulatory agency group meetings. o Assist in the development and implementation of Global Standards across the business. o
Develop and provide EHS technical training. o
Develop long range plan to support EHS strategy, considering long term goals and EHS continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
Is identified as EHS Subject Matter Expert. o
Participates or leads cross-divisional teams to develop and align procedures/standards and share best practices. o
Directs the efforts of others, such as technicians and outside resources.
Develops and approves requests for Capital Expenditures (RCE’s), safety assessments, audit reports, scope documents, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Leads and mentors EHS professionals in technical and organizational areas.
Participates in the evaluation of assigned staff / project team members and in the identification of development needs.
May supervise EHS professionals and other functional disciplines or be a functional lead. Works independently.
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
Develops scenarios to give management a set of viable alternatives and recommends actions.
Decisions or recommendations would result in achievement of key organizational objectives and compliance
Drives functional performance that meets required standards and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Engineering, Science or related field o re equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of experience administering a safety program.
Working knowledge of governmental regulations and applicable standards such as EPA, OSHA, DOT and ISO.
Experience in a manufacturing environment

The base pay for this position is $99,300.00 – $198,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
