Ladder Livestock Range Sheepherder in Savery, Wyoming

Start Date: 04/16/2026 End Date: 11/30/2026 3 Months Previous Experience Required Must have 3 months experience with 800 - 1000 head flocks. One reference required. The employee must be able to identify approaching storm periods and make precautions to prevent the herd from drifting against a fence line where they pile up and get drifted over with snow and freeze to death. The herder must be experienced in handling extreme winter conditions on a range to prevent death in sheep, goats, horses, and dogs. Due to animals exerting more energy during the winter months especially in extreme winter weather, the herder will need to monitor the nutritional needs of an animal throughout winter. Ensure that animals have access to unfrozen water and to distribute emergency supplemental feed. Monitor snow levels to prevent sheep/goats from being paralyzed in deep snow or caught up against a fence. Herders need to have experience in identifying animals who are not getting enough nutrition, keeping a fresh supply of water in freezing temperatures, and how to maintain animals in extreme weather conditions. Some work/tasks may occur off the range, but more than 50% of work will be performed on the range. Western Range Association and its member ranches facilitate practices of good animal husbandry. Employees that are found abusing, neglecting or abandoning livestock entrusted to their care may be terminated for cause. If the negligent/abusive actions of an employee result in the loss/death of livestock/animals or cause harm to another person, the employee may be held accountable for these actions. The worker will live in the employer provided range housing. Said housing will be clean and in good repair at the time it is provided to the employee. The employee is responsible to maintain the housing unit in a reasonable level of cleanliness in order to avoid flies, mice or other vermin. The employee is responsible to alert the employer of damage to the housing unit within a reasonable amount of time. The employee may be held accountable for damage to the housing unit that is the result of negligence on the part of the employee (normal wear and tear excepted). An employee's involvement with drugs could be extremely dangerous to all employees and others, and disruptive to the workplace. Use, manufacture, distribution or possession of an illegal drug, or misuse of a prescription drug is cause for termination. Any person found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while working will be terminated. At the employer's expense, all applicants may be required to complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing. Failure to consent to requested testing, will result in disqualification of the applicant. Employer Provided Items: Tools, supplies and equipment includes horses and tack, dogs, binoculars, shovel, axe, sleeping bag, rain gear, insulated coveralls, winter boots, stocking hat, and gloves. In addition to these items, the workers are provided other tools, supplies, and equipment, as required by law, to work safely and effectively. Electronic Communication: Cell phones, along with sufficient minutes of use for communication, are provided, without charge or deposit, to workers during the entire period of employment. In the rare instance where the worker(s) is located in an area without cell phone service, the worker will be contacted, in person by either the employer or his camp tender, on a preset schedule (every 3rd or 4th day) if not more regularly. Camps are moved by the employer's or the camp tender's pickup, thus assuring personal contact with the worker(s) at least once every ten days. Housing: Mobile range cam s are located in various locations on private, state and federal land in Carbon County, and Sweetwater County, WY and Moffat County and Routt County CO. Housing locations vary depending upon season, weather and grazing rotation. Adequate housing is provided by the employer  in accordance with the rules and regulations of the federal government at no cost to the worker.  * * Meals: *Housing contains free and convenient cooking facilities and employer will provide three prepared meals a day or adequate food, free of charge, based on the requisition by worker, for workers to prepare their own meals while in camp or on the range. Employer may at times provide prepared meals for workers consumption. *Water Supply: Employer will provide worker a minimum of 4.5 gallons of potable water per day per worker for drinking and cooking purposes. Additional clean water will be provided to meet the workers laundry and bathing needs.

Colorado State Tax: State Income Tax will be withheld for workers while they are working in the State of Colorado.  When the workers are working in the State of Wyoming there is no State income tax Withheld.
