Job Title: Refrigeration Mechanic
Job Description
The Refrigeration Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs refrigeration and HVAC systems on cold storage units mounted on tractor trailers used for the distribution of temperature-sensitive products. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration, HVAC, and related electrical and mechanical systems on vehicle-based units.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration units installed on tractor trailers to ensure reliable cold storage for transported products.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues on trailer-mounted cold storage units.
Work on HVAC units and vehicle air conditioning systems, including inspection, troubleshooting, and component replacement.
Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints to identify faults and complete accurate repairs.
Use diagnostic tools and basic hand tools to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on diesel-powered refrigeration units.
Conduct line maintenance and general mechanical repairs as needed on trailers and associated equipment.
Document maintenance and repair work performed in an accurate and timely manner.
Follow safety procedures while working in an outdoor shop environment and around heavy equipment.
Rotate Saturday shifts as required to support ongoing maintenance and repair needs.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience working with refrigeration systems, particularly on vehicle or trailer-mounted units.
Experience with HVAC units, including inspection, maintenance, and repair.
Experience working on air conditioning systems in vehicles.
Electrical experience, including the ability to read and work from electrical schematics and blueprints.
Mechanical aptitude and general mechanical knowledge to perform repairs on diesel-powered and mechanical systems.
Troubleshooting skills for refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, diesel, and mechanical issues.
Ability to perform automotive-style repairs related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Capability to work with HVAC electrical systems safely and effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on Thermo King or similar trailer refrigeration units is highly valued.
Familiarity with line maintenance, construction-related mechanical work, or similar mechanical environments.
Ability to use basic hand tools such as wrenches, sockets, ratchets, and hand drills.
Willingness to learn and participate in further training and certifications for refrigeration units.
Comfort working with diesel systems related to refrigeration equipment.

Work Environment
You work in an outdoor shop environment, where conditions vary with the seasons and can be hot or cold depending on the weather. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with rotating Saturday hours from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Basic hand tools such as wrenches, sockets, ratchets, and hand drills are required, while the company provides specialized tools needed for the refrigeration units. The environment involves working around trailers, mechanical equipment, and diesel-powered refrigeration systems in a hands-on, shop-based setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Savannah, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
