Our season kicks off in April and runs through November, with the possibility of extending into December. This position is responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in asphalt paving, aggregate, grading, milling, traffic control and concrete production. Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with 1 - 2 Saturdays a month. The schedule may vary depending on weather and customer demand. Aggregate - To assist with operations to assure that quality aggregates are produced at maximum production levels. Gravel Base - To efficiently run the gravel/base operation; produce quality gravel/base in timely manner Milling - To efficiently run the milling operation and base jobs when needed, produce quality gravel/base in timely manner Paving - To efficiently run the paving operation, produce quality asphalt product in timely manner Traffic Control - To plan for and erect traffic control signs for road construction in compliance with government agency requirements DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job) Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained. Safely and properly supervise and coordinate activities of workers. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors. Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, Lockout/Tagout, safety and environmental regulation compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Paving Communicate paving crew needs with dispatch - Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of drivers Communicate needs to plant Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects Produce quality asphalt product within specifications Coach employees Communicate needed information to employees Assist new employees Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily Tour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment. Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance with contract. Measure distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site. Directs work crews engaged in operation of vehicles and machines. Verifies curvature of graded surface using hand level. Supervise bituminous paving crews, aggregate production crews or crews engaged in operating machines to tamp, roll and smooth surface for subgrade of highway. Minimum 3 years experience in product line. Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.) Ability to provide or obtain Class A CDL COMPENSATION: $36.00 - $40.00 per hour depending on experience.
