We are seeking a motivated and versatile Project Scientist/Environmental Geologist to join our small, collaborative team. This role supports compliance, environmental, and engineering projects across mining, industrial, and environmental sectors throughout New York and New England. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable working both in the field and in a small office environment (2-4 people). The position involves a roughly equal mix of field and office work, with travel primarily consisting of day trips.
Key Responsibilities
Support Project Managers on compliance, environmental, and engineering projects, including field investigations for large and complex sites.
Develop and apply knowledge of relevant regulations, permits, and permitting frameworks, including stormwater and SPDES requirements.
Prepare, implement, and maintain Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); conduct stormwater inspections, monitoring, and sampling in accordance with applicable permits and regulations.
Collect, preserve, and accurately record groundwater, soil, and air samples based on established protocols; coordinate field efforts with clients, contractors, and staff.
Conduct environmental compliance audits, site assessments, and bulk storage reviews; prepare associated written plans and reports.
Perform contractor oversight and interact with clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies in both field and office settings.
Prepare technical documents, figures, tables, and reports in accordance with project objectives, QA/QC standards, and company guidelines.
Develop understanding of monitoring and sampling techniques and proper use of field equipment.
Attend technical seminars and stay current with evolving environmental regulations and best management practices.
This position is 50% office / 50% field work.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Mining/Geological Engineering, or related field.
3-5 years of relevant industry experience in New York State.
Demonstrated experience with stormwater management, SWPPP preparation, and stormwater permit compliance.
Strong technical writing skills; excellent written and oral communication.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with environmental sampling, groundwater monitoring, and field data collection.
Travel required primarily day trips; occasional evenings or weekends.
Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation. Candidates local to the Saratoga Springs area preferred.
Minimum two years of post-graduation work experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform field work including walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching, lifting, and bending.
Must be able to lift and carry equipment and samples up to 50 lbs, including buckets of water.
Stamina to walk, stand, hike, and collect samples for extended periods in varied terrain and weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Ability to maintain footing in or near fast-moving water; swimming ability required.
Dexterity to handle small tools and field equipment with precision.
Willingness to wear appropriate PPE including hard hat, safety-toe boots, gloves, masks, and safety glasses.
Preferred Qualifications
NYS DEC Endorsed 4-Hour Erosion & Sediment Control Certification
Experience with SWPPP development and implementation for construction or industrial sites.
Familiarity with SPDES general permits, DOT source reports, and consolidated rock quarry regulations.
Familiarity with data management, spatial analysis tools, or GPS data collection.
Salary Range:
$60,000 - $70,000 Depending on Experience
