Herbruck Poultry Ranch EHS Specialist in Saranac, Michigan

Position Summary:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting and promoting a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role partners with leadership and team members to implement safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, and drive a culture of continuous safety improvement across assigned locations with regular local travel between sites. Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Herbruck’s biosecurity protocols for multi-site travel.

  • Implement & support company EHS policies, procedures, and programs, including continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, & risk assessments.

  • Identify hazards & recommend corrective & preventive actions.

  • Lead/assist incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action tracking

  • Support injury management, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work programs.

  • Monitor safety metrics & prepare reports.

  • EHS training, including the ability to operate powered industrial equipment and provide operator training.

  • Maintain required documentation, logs, permits, and records (OSHA 300, inspections, training records, etc.) in an audit-ready manner; support regulatory inspections as needed.

  • Promote employee engagement in safety programs, committees, and initiatives.

  • Support EHS program development and continuous improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 1-3 years of EHS, safety, or compliance experience.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations & safety management systems.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites

  • Does not own or maintain regular contact with birds, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, or unprocessed eggs.

    Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk & stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at height.

  • Ability to work in operational environments.
