Technical Artist (Augmented Reality / Real-Time 3D)
Refract Studio - Remote / Hybrid
Refract Studio is looking for a Technical Artist to help build performant, beautiful Augmented Reality experiences using modern real-time pipelines. This role sits at the intersection of art and engineering-you'll optimize assets, build shaders, prototype interactions, and collaborate closely with developers and designers.
What You'll Do
Build and deploy browser-based Augmented Reality scenes
Optimize 3D assets for mobile (polycount, textures, GLB pipeline)
Create stylized materials and shaders (Three.js / GLSL)
Implement interactions, UI overlays, audio, and touch input
Prototype fast under real constraints
Test across mobile devices and browsers
Collaborate with engineers, artists, and creative technologists
Contribute to internal tools, docs, and pipelines
What We're Looking For
Strong 3D fundamentals (Blender, Houdini a plus)
Experience with Three.js, WebGL, or real-time rendering
Solid JavaScript skills
Asset optimization for mobile performance
Comfort working in Git/GitHub
Curious, collaborative, and prototype-driven mindset
Bonus Experience

Houdini procedural workflows
Snap Lens Studio or other AR platforms
