Actalent Systems Test Engineer in Santa Clara, California

Job Title: Systems Test EngineerJob Description

The Systems Test Engineer develops, executes, and documents system-level test protocols for diagnostic instrumentation, with a focus on hematology testing equipment. This role trains on internal quality compliance requirements, gains access to specialized tools and systems, and performs hands-on testing of products and prototypes to verify software, hardware, and overall system performance against product requirements. The engineer analyzes complex test data using statistical methods, prepares clear test reports, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and support product quality and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Complete required quality compliance training and adhere to all applicable procedures and standards.

  • Obtain access to and effectively use necessary tools and systems to support test planning, execution, and documentation.

  • Create, refine, and execute detailed system-level test protocols based on system verification and test plans.

  • Perform testing on product and prototype diagnostic instrumentation, including hematology testing equipment, to verify software, hardware, and system performance.

  • Design and execute system verification plans for diagnostic analyzers in alignment with product requirements and specifications.

  • Analyze complex test data using appropriate statistical methods to evaluate performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive test reports, including results, conclusions, and recommendations, to cross-functional team leads and leadership.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant documentation of all verification activities, including test plans, test procedures, test reports, and defect tracking records.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as engineering, software, quality, and systems to resolve identified issues and ensure timely closure of defects.

  • Participate in troubleshooting efforts with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and support corrective actions.

  • Follow good documentation practices to ensure traceability, clarity, and regulatory readiness of all testing records.

  • Support continuous improvement of test procedures, test development practices, and product verification processes.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree.

  • At least 2 years of experience in systems testing, product verification, or a closely related field.

  • Proven ability to create and execute detailed test protocols and test procedures.

  • Hands-on experience with testing diagnostic equipment, specifically hematology testing equipment or similar medical instrumentation.

  • Experience in systems verification and systems testing for complex software and hardware products.

  • Strong understanding of product verification methodologies and validation principles.

  • Proficiency in using test equipment and tools to perform system-level testing.

  • Ability to analyze complex data using statistical methods and interpret results accurately.

  • Strong documentation skills and adherence to good documentation practices.

  • Ability to track, document, and communicate defects and issues clearly and systematically.

  • Effective collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, software, quality, and systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in test development for diagnostic or laboratory instrumentation.

  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools and processes.

  • Experience preparing structured test reports and presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to support troubleshooting and root cause analysis in a cross-functional environment.

  • Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset in all testing and documentation activities.

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team-based environment.

Work Environment

This role operates in an onsite laboratory environment located in the Bay Area, working directly with diagnostic and hematology testing equipment, prototypes, and related test systems. The position involves hands-on work with lab instrumentation and test equipment in a controlled lab setting, following established safety and quality procedures. The work schedule follows standard lab hours, with the potential for the assignment to extend past 2026. The organization offers 2 weeks of paid time off and 6 paid holidays, supporting a balanced and sustainable work experience.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
